Re: How John Spong damaged my wife's testimony
I listened to the interview (Doug has gotten better at interviewing, he used to lead people on like Dehlin-who has gotten better too). Anywho. I mentioned to my wife I can't believe some things literally. She called me out and said, "you are using words "that guy" mentioned on RadioWest..." I am so ...

What calling does someone like me get?
Had a meeting with the new BP. Nice guy, empathetic and listening. I didn't get into the nitty gritty, but he knows more than most of my past BP. He asked if he found the "right" calling would I accept. I guess :? What callings would a gun slinger without a recommend and a very NOM belief like mysel...

Re: Quinn's book Magic World View
The LDS church would be way different if Joseph Smith hadn't been murdered when he was. Still, this is surprising to me. I've got to go look it up. Thanks for the reference. :) I often wonder what the church would look like if he had kept on going. I have a feeling we would be more like seventh day...

Second ward in SLC that the BP declares...
Moved into the new ward. The BP met with my family this week. He declared we are a blessing in the ward. Our ward is 75% over the age of 70 (or there abouts). He indicated that whenever a home goes on sale, most of the time it goes to someone not attending the church (NM or inactive). My BP in anoth...

Good ideas-
I think BIL won't bat an eye if it comes up. If he asks, I will reassure him I am not offended that he just assumed (DW told me he felt embarrassed for assuming).

I don't think you want him as a witness, he's not Mormon
My nephew is getting baptized next week. So my wife and some of DW's siblings received a text asking about who could be a witness. My DW replied, "Raylan is not really Mormon, so...." I guess my poor BIL felt all bad thinking he had opened up some wounds between DW and I. Nope, we are both pretty co...

Re: Other Christian faiths
I face similar problems, many faiths profess a literal view of the Bible. One of the only groups that don't are Jews. I have found a few pastors that are trained enough to know the pitfalls of literal thinking. Perhaps find a pastor, rather than a church? I am still working on that...( a few emails ...

Great interview on Radio West
A lot of this resonated with me. Especially the idea of focusing not on who Jesus/God is (whether he died on cross and was resurrected), but on what he wants us to do and be.

Re: I Find Myself Hoping Your Plane Crashes
Ouch. I have had the thought after a year of marriage, of what it would be like without DW (if she was in an accident). :? Not a good path to go down. I realized that is was feeling controlled and manipulated, and I was tired of it. My DW is incredibly brilliant and analytical (we joke about her bei...

Re: With every interaction my MIL and I grow further apart.
My MIL is getting closer to me than ever....DW and her are no longer on speaking terms. I am her new information line. I am currently doing my best to make Parent Trap like arrangement post haste. Perhaps your relationship with MIL isn't getting further apart, just changing into something different....

Another move, this one looks very permanent
Well, I gone and done it. I bought my wife her "25 year house" I think my DW has moved over a dozen times in the last 12 years (before and during our marriage). So her statement of a 25 year house is big. I have been pretty upfront with my previous Bishops. In the Ole Peublo, they don't care and mak...

Re: Why some DWs/DHs follow and others don't?
For DW it is about commitment, she committed years ago to go to church. She had reasons not to (dad is a kind, but intellectual atheist). Once my DW makes a choice, she sticks to it.
To me, it is a church, people go to churches all the time...why not this one? No one shot me yet

I had the, "just setting up an appointment because your recommend has expired," talk with BP. Let her pick some days to go to the temple when she's ready. Watch the kids, clean the house, when she gets back she will feel better...I think
