Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint
“... we expect to see the day when we will not need to ask you for one dollar of donation for any purpose, except that which you volunteer to give of your own accord, because we will have tithes sufficient in the storehouse of the Lord to pay everything that is needful for the advancement of the ki...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint
New strategy: Honey, we’ve paid in our fair share of the $100B tithing foundation and future donations will be paid out of our share of that investment income! This way we can be prudent like the church and build our “second coming rainy day” foundation! Like. Over on reddit a couple of commenters ...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint
Chuck the Furch! A few days later and I'm still just as pissed. Same here. It is so frustrating that I can’t just say “F” it and leave the church. My family is so indoctrinated. Its not right that the church can hold my family and my finances hostage. Just fuming. New strategy: Honey, we’ve paid in...

Re: Giving Blessings
I’ve been asked to give a blessing to a close relative this weekend. I know there is no magic power that I can call down to heal this person. Hell, I’m agnostic at best. Just curious w2mz... Does your relative know anything of your current belief? I would say they know I’m not as devout as I used t...

Re: Giving Blessings
Don’t think of this as a burden. Think of it as an opportunity! You get unfettered access to tell this person whatever you want and they will listen. I recently gave my FIL a blessing who was suffering from some form of physical pain. I spent 5 minutes telling him that God designed human bodies to ...

Giving Blessings
I’ve been asked to give a blessing to a close relative this weekend. I know there is no magic power that I can call down to heal this person. Hell, I’m agnostic at best. In some ways I feel like I’m perpetuating the myth by doing it, but this person is TBM to their DNA and I think it will give them ...

Agreed, there is some kind of big JS worship conference coming. The YSA ward in our stake has been invited to participate in the music for it.

Uh, Russ, isn’t this what the church is supposed to be doing anyway? The members are good people because they are good people, not just because they are Mormon.

I’m here too unfortunately. So far Gong is pretty vanilla. Simple normal primary type talk. Jesus loves me I love Jesus, he tucks me in at night and brings me warm milk so I can sleep tight. I’d say no points either way.

Re: NOMference Fall 2019 Saturday afternoon!!!
So, now we have a "Youth Battalion" and their adult leaders are "officers". Getting much more militaristic these days. Do the q15 not realize how out dated and weird that will sound to the kids? Battalion, really? Why not Team or Community? Battalion sounds so militaristic and Us vs Them defensive....

Re: General Konference Predictions
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the changes to the youth program. I predict that there will be no less than 5 talks where RMN is praised and lauded for having the prophetic wisdom and vision to implement this program to keep the youth on the covenant path. There will be ass-kissing galore of the ...
Re: Sea Legs
Excellent post Graey! The dark night of a Mormon faith crisis is similar. Your very foundation of existence gets pulled out from under your feet and replaced with... reality. Reality is the solid ground, it is not moving. But my life, ironically, has been built on the very shaky foundation of LDS D...

Re: Trying to get a feel for this forum
Fair enough. You gotta do you. You can know/believe anything you want. Still feels like a game of “Punch me in the stomach as hard as you can to see how tough I am” though. When we’re done, let’s play the opposite game where you, as a true believer, pretend to know absolutely that Joseph WAS a fraud...
