Re: NOMference Sunday Morning Fall 2022 - for Mopag

Good morning my friends. I avoided GC as long as I could. But sadly, it found me all the same.

Re: Is Bishop really a 40 hour a week calling?

I think this was about right for me too. When I first read the post I thought around 20 hours was about right. I was the transient bishop too, and that didn't add too much time to the regular schedule. But it was 20 hours I didn't have for my family, trying to make money, or further my career. Stil...

Re: The watering down of what is revelation

Strictly speaking, a revelation could be described as anything that reveals a previously unconsidered, unobserved, or unrecognized thought or idea. Which is certainly not something that could be said of anything that goes on in LDS meetings. ... A leadership meeting about doing better at ministerin...

Re: The watering down of what is revelation

I get what you're saying, and I 100% agree that the church enacts concerted efforts to water down the miraculous to make our everyday lives seem "blessed" by our church activity. That said, I'm going to play the Devil's (church's  ) advocate for a sec. Strictly speaking, a revelation could be d...

Re: Resignation Poll

In a dream-world I would resign along with my wife and family. But that is so far removed from reality that I just put resignation on my anti-church shelf and tell myself its so I don't make my mom cry. ... and that makes me cry.

OK, I spent a day researching and put the list together.

Loose Translation:

Tight Translation:

Re: The most well read Mormons are….

The most well-read Mormons have at least read Rough Stone Rolling. I don't recall any TBM's who seem to have read it. Missionaries surprised me at my house the other day when I was the only one home. They saw RSR on my bookshelf and asked about it. One said he wanted to read it when he got ...

Re: Supporting our own

A lot of the BoM apologetics try to deal with the given topic by citing either loose or tight translation methods. Has anyone created a list of the various BoM problems and compared how often they cite tight vs loose translation? I was thinking the same thing. It would be interesting to see a compi...

Re: Is Bishop really a 40 hour a week calling?

I wanted to add that my friend who is currently the transient Bishop for our stake is significantly busier on random nights. I could see him hitting close to 40 hours on a bad week.

Re: Is Bishop really a 40 hour a week calling?

Is the Bishop really spending 40 hours a week doing church work? I may not be a typical bishop, but here's my schedule for the past year.... Sundays: 6 ~ 10 hours depending meetings, phone calls, interviews, and visits Mondays: off Tuesdays: 2-4 hours (including prep, giving rides, and cleanup) YM/...

Losing our Eternal Families

I was recently listening to an old Mormon Expression podcast where the group discusses D&C 19. Specifically versus 6-12... 6 Nevertheless, it is not written that there shall be no end to this torment, but it is written endless torment. 7 Again, it is written eternal damnation; wherefore it is more e...

I'm on the 0% tithing plan. Great plan. Highly recommend. I'm also on the 0% plan. Still waiting for the SP to notice and kick me out err... release me from my calling. That said, we have committed substantial $ to helping certain individuals and families in our ward/area directly. So I feel okay w...

Re: Source Says There Is Disarray Among the Q15

This is anecdotal, but tithing has not significantly changed in our non-Utah ward. Removing actual numbers here is a chart of the last 4 years... The 2022 number is a projection based on the past 6 months. https://i.imgur.com/yX4NWx3.png edit: Interesting to note that probably 85-90% of the total ti...

Major Depression Diagnosis by State

Saw this floating around r/mapporn. https://i.imgur.com/iszQY1F.png I have been a bishop for slightly over a year now. In all that time I have had 1, one, single, solitary man ask to meet with me because he needed someone to talk to. It actually turned out to be a very brief, but good, conversation ...
