Well Rasband's talk was rather a bit of fear-mongering. But like Hagoth said, without the context of belief these talks are really basic and substance-free, like children's stories.

Of course Satan as boogie-man is, as always, a way to externalize "bad" decisions which are of course, our own.

What strikes me a lot about this is that, after all this time that I have been away from it, these talks are all exactly the same type of thing they were before I left. It's all rehash and basic stuff. "Don't talk about what happens in temples", is a talk that's been done innumerable times, and yet ...

So, the logical conclusion of this movement to home churching is that you really don't need to go on Sunday anymore, I guess. I can see the upside to this.

Or, he's basically saying that you can't expect THEM to teach you the right way. (Only to correct you when you don't get it right.)

Wong's talk sounds nice, but even with the lost sheep metaphor, he's presenting it in the context of sheep that have gone astray, not ones that have fallen into illness or despair.

I tried to sit and listen to Oaks' talk. I lasted about 2 minutes. Everything he said comes from 19th century Methodist sermons plagiarized by BoM prophets through the miracle of time travel. Seriously. There was nothing in it that couldn't have been heard in any generic sermon from the last 200 ye...

I had forgotten how boring this whole thing is. It's like the talk is generated by some kind of bot that combines commonly used phrases into something that is grammatically correct, but not really saying anything.

I remember when I was (relatively) TBM, that when people would say we "worship a different Christ", I was bewildered what they meant. Now I can understand. I'm currently watching the live feed on-line of the between session stuff and there is an extended bit on about refugees and how to support them...
