Oaks and Reasons for God's Commandments
Just finished listening to RFM's most recent podcast #120. He airs Oaks speaking on reasons behind the priesthood ban, for which Oaks said he sought answers to but never received anything. Oaks then said something to the effect of: "in scripture the Lord rarely gives reasons for his commandments..."...

Re: "Thirst for my blood..."
I remember reading something from BH Roberts where he said the BoM was actually theologically shallow. It certainly didn't have anything about priesthood being essential for salvations,...etc. Anyway,...when I think of black & white reasoning as you mentioned, it also tells me that JS had a level o...

Re: "Thirst for my blood..."
The necessity for black-and-white thinking was set up from the very beginning wasn't it? Was it? I've been on a kick listening to Greg Prince interviews and it seems like there was a switch to fundamentalism after David O. McKay, mainly with Joseph Fielding Smith sparking hard core fundamentalism, ...

Re: Talking around the issues
Going back to the original post, the biggest "talking around the issues" of the $124 billion war chest, is exactly how that war chest was accumulated, and how it's being portrayed in the Mormon media. Many articles from newsroom/church news/desert news tells me that this "rainy day fund" is great f...

Re: CFM - If I could ask them one question this week . . .
Another "not very useful" truth that I like to point out about the witnesses: According to most of the accounts we have, the "golden plates" were never actually used in the "translation" of the Book of MORmON that we have today, only the 116 pages. So... What good are "witnesses" of source material...

https://news.sky.com/story/mayan-palace-at-least-1000-years-old-uncovered-by-archeologists-in-mexico-11895822?dcmp=snt-sf-twitter The church is true people - it was only a matter of time until they unearthed more evidence that the Mayans were Lamanites. See you all in the seats on Sunday. I recentl...

Re: Why Priesthood At All?
This is why I wanted to amend my first post from saying that priesthood is something men invented to maintain “power over women” to saying to is something “men invented to maintain authority over women and other men who are lower in the organization.” I saw this inference in what you first wrote al...

Re: History between JS, Rigdon, & Cowdery; BofM and Priesthood
Sidney Rigdon had been "prophecying" to his congregation in Kirtland that a "restoration" was imminent and that a book of scripture was about to come forth that would be instrumental in that restoration of the Gospel. This was some time before he had supposedly met Smith. Wow, this is fascinating P...

Re: CFM - If I could ask them one question this week . . .
Honorable mention I thought I might ask something to get at the reliability of the Three and Eight Witnesses accounts, but I think it's a little more difficult to get your mind around the problems with them. But, if you feel prompted, maybe something like, "If the witnesses are such good evidence, ...

Re: Why Priesthood At All?
While I have a hard time saying that I believe in supernaturalism, I still think there can be value in some of the Mormon priesthood (as a power to serve towards good) activities. While faith healing is dubious at best, a blessing of comfort really can convey comfort for those that want it to. Shar...

Re: On losing your temple recommend
Theoretically, what duplicitous measures would you recommend for a person wishing to retain their Temple recommend for the sake of their spouse? My wife and I were just talking about this yesterday. We both settled on the idea that it's okay to say 'yes' to every question because going to the templ...

Re: Observation #6: Most common question
BofA is a good response. I think it’s pretty easy to destroy Brigham Young’s reputation with history. Joseph Smith is a little harder since there are some gaps in that allows one to make calls on whether an issue is good or bad... But that’s a lot harder to do with BY. Example- RFM’s apostolic coup ...

In the entire time ive known you, i dont recall one complimentary thing youve said about men. Your misandry makes it hard to be here. I constantly feel attacked and marginalized, and forced to give into your delusions about the evil nature of masculinty and manhood. iwanttotalk - Just so I'm clear,...

Re: God is an 8 year old girl
Were you emotionally hurt by an 8 year old girl back in 2nd grade? Why is God tied to that age and gender for you? To me God became something of a dilemma when I realized how often he changed his mind on stuff. I agree God becomes created between our ears, in our own image. Conveniently for the pur...

Knock it off. Boys are the majority of suicides. Boys are the majority of homeless. Boys are the primary victims of violent crime. They perform more poorly in school and have less access to college. Do we here about how sperm counts and testosterone are dropping without bottom and will result in ba...

History between JS, Rigdon, & Cowdery; BofM and Priesthood
I think I've seen this discussed somewhere on NOM before. Sorry if this has been asked one or more times... Also, someone has likely already formulated the thoughts below so I apologize if I'm coincidentally rehashing an old discussion. Does anyone know the earliest possible date that Rigdon and Jos...

Re: Why Priesthood At All?
Article from the Improvement Era, October Issue, 1931: Why Priesthood At All? Can any one, without the priesthood, pray and have his prayers answered? Or receive the holy ghost, with its gifts and manifestations? The answer is yes. Men, women and children who do not hold the priesthood have had thei...

Why Priesthood At All?
I just listened to one of Bill Reel's really old interviews with Greg Prince. https://mormondiscussionpodcast.org/tag/greg-prince/ Bill asked Greg about the priesthood restoration, and Greg had interesting things to say. He said something to the effect, the priesthood is two things 1) authority, and...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint
I initially thought that this whole $100b revelation would have little to no impact on TBMs. However, I perused the LDS Freedom Fighters forum today and was surprised to see a decent amount of concern expressed on the issue, mainly in terms of little charitable giving and transparency. I thought thi...
