Re: Connecting to middle way Mormonism
Basically just listen. You you lead them toward unbelief, then you become unsafe for them to talk to. So just listen to how they feel and give them time to work out what they want to believe. If they ask specific questions, then you can answer honestly, or maybe ask them if they really want to know...

Connecting to middle way Mormonism
Even though this is NOM, it seems that most of no longer believe in the original foundational story. I have a good friend and a BIL that are both very middle way. By that I mean they can't make everything work in Mormonism so they have an altered "cafeteria" view of Mormonism. For both of them I am ...
Changes
Things are changing around here. DW started reading "Letter for my Wife," her question: All the new information is making her head swim. A lot of information about the church seems downright crazy (polygamy, rock in the hat, anachronisms, psychedelics, etc. etc.) How can she know that she is not jus...
Re: Community
Thanks, we struggle with how to find community. Just recently met some people in our neighborhood who are going through this as well, so that is a start.

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?
I don't think this is anything specific to the pandemic. When you watch the news they don't have a story about all of the houses that didn't burn down that day, or the people that weren't shot or stabbed. This is exactly true, the difference being the vast majority of us will either have to be expo...

Re: I have an ally!
It is @ https://www.ldsdiscussions.com/saints In hindsight I really wish I had formatted it better and had a chapter on each page. When I started it I did not realize how cumbersome it would get, so I just broke it up into sections as I think the Saints book did as well. Maybe some day I'll do a qu...

Re: Looks like I'll be doing my "Home Study" after all...
One of the things DW and I have discussed is how to teach morals and ethics without the church's tidy little package. Our agreement is that we spend time each Sunday involved in a moral or spiritual discussion as a family, but that the discussion should appeal to everyone, including myself. To that ...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?
On a related note, I am thoroughly confused by my TBM relatives. There appear to be two strongly held positions about COVID: 1. Its all made up, none of it is real, "they" are just trying to take away our rights. 2. This is a sign of the times and the second coming will be happening within two years...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?
But Both of my parents (who are in their late 70's) contracted COVID. My Mother tested positive at the hospital in early April, my father was never tested, although he developed the same symptoms as my mother. They were uncomfortable and isolated for a couple of weeks with fevers and coughs, but the...

Re: I have an ally!
Congrats Salvareeno. I dream of the day when I can talk openly with my daughters about this stuff. The day has come with the wife. You would think that would make it easy with the kids too, but DW doesn't want to blow up the family. I have had some surprising conversations with DW, but like your wi...

Re: I have an ally!
Congratulations! It's a great relief to have family members who will engage with you on these deep issues. Good luck moving forward. Thanks! Yeah it has been nice. He has a good friend who has also read the CES Letter and is faith-transitioning also so they have been talking to each other as well.

Re: I have an ally!
If he's reading Saints, have him read my chapter by chapter review which did cover the footnote problems a lot... it's honestly been a while so I can't remember all of it, but I remember pointing out how they sourced stuff often because it really showed where they were still being deceptive. And yo...

Yay slavereeno!! It must be really hard not to throw everything out now that you finally have someone to commiserate with. Take care and let your wife see you give him space. At the same time, hopefully a second witness will her her sees there really is a normal every day man behind the curtain rat...

Re: I have an ally!
Yes, so far DS2 has been really frustrated by Saints, he is finding a very slanted and dismissive tone to it.deacon blues wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 2:34 pmExcellent. "Saints" itself is propaganda, but it at least engages some of the issues.

Thanks Hagoth! This was exactly what I was looking for.Hagoth wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 10:43 amSounds like Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/
I have found a community with these people: https://www.saltlakeoasis.org/
The current apocalypse is making community pretty difficult to find and develop.
