Re: Behold! The Fruits of E Oaks' Oct 2018 Talk Begin to Ripen!
Newspapers are not required to print hate speech. There is something seriously wrong with the Herald. There are always crazy people writing crazy letters. You don't have to print them. This letter is a direct attack on people based on sexual orientation, which is in the definition of hate speech.

Re: What would you expect if the church was true?
To me, what's done is done. Truth from this point on would be to fess up regarding inaccuracies and cease any further falsehoods. I believe the Church can be a force for good in the world and offer spiritual guidance for its members. I think something can be as good as gold even if it did not start...

Re: Friday Fun: Who Wrote the Book of Mormon (and How)?
Thanks for the ^^ explanation FFM. Makes sense, Crawford's ideas certainly are visible. Who wrote it, theories must explain a lot... My go at the chain of events (major ones): 1. Literature that is found in various ways in the BoM: The Bible The Adventures of Marco Polo The Spanish Conquest of Mexic...

Do you mean Alexander Campbell?
Rigdon could have added Campbell's restorationist theology to the BoM, is that what he meant?

Re: Melonakos Interview with John Dehlin
I had to put down Melonakos' book because of my other studies, (I will finish it when I can), but I must admit to some eye rolling at some of the leaps of logic she took to build her forgery case. Not to say there isn't some evidence, but she does make some assumptions. Other than that it's very ey...

Re: Is RMN senile?
The way it looks, I would say clinical depression is more probable than Alzheimer's. Also definitely the old man rigid thinking part. I knew an old man in his late 80s early 90s who every day would retell stories of how people had taken advantage of him or cheated him during the depression. Older pe...

How about the 'anti-satanists'. That pretty much covers it.

Re: The problems isn't that Jesus isn't in the name...
Yes, the problem is that they have invented a prosperity Jesus who they control through 'prophetic utterances', and that character is very profitable, a golden goose. The real Jesus character is not in the lessons, meetings, or in the policies. And that is for good reason. They don't know how to mon...

Re: What's the deal with the social media fast?
Somebody should put a reminder out to all the groups in 10 days to repost everything... Anyway, all the women on the fast have to do in 10 days is look back at their history to see what they missed. I think the point was to get more control, he wants them to focus on the BoM, and the church for 10 d...

Re: Chaos Reigns
I think the whole issue stems from the church leaders feeling attacked by the fact that LGBT is incompatible with the core ideas Joseph had for the afterlife. If they acknowledge LGBT are normal people with feelings and the right to pursue their happiness in this life, they have to provide a salvati...

Re: RMN's "Correction"
But the idea of making a "correction" of an error that had "crept into" the church opens an interesting line of thinking. First of all, I have this quote by Joseph Smith elsewhere here on the site but would like to reiterate it here. "One of the grand fundamental principles of Mormonism is to recei...

Re: Dear Mr. Stears - letter from Kirton McConkie
The review is gone from google, replaced by 'I love all you guys'. Sounds like a disabled member felt abused, or knew of abuse by a local church leader. The local leader complained to KM who sided with the leader and has portrayed Stears as a disturbance. We don't know the whole story, but the churc...

Re: ATF Podcast Episode: Good luck litigating the Mormon church
So much for rule of law in the morcor. Wow, that is disturbing. And the fact that it has gone on for so long, this situation hit my own family many years ago and the perpetrator was never prosecuted due to the priesthood connections and fear of repercussions. I now understand how that probably happe...

Re: Rebranding.... No Longer Mormon
Hmm, maybe rebranding, but I don't think this is just about improving the church's image. And it's probably not because Nelson has been a long advocate of focusing on the full formal name of the church. That is too old, if God wanted the church to stop using Mormon, and Nelson has waited this long, ...

Good to see another familiar avatar. Some of us have upgraded the visuals a bit, but using the same old names. As for what we are doing here, we have been doing here that which we have done on the other board.

Re: Pendelum shifts away from Mormon
How about 'The Church Formerly Known as Mormon.' That pretty much solves it, right? Has all the required elements, does not call the church 'Mormon' and says 'The Church' and everyone will know which church you mean...And much shorter abbreviation.

RR, that is really out there. He even looks kinf of crazed. I think he may have snapped. I would too without food. As far as the OP, I am not sure the Catholic scandal will really hurt Sam's cause. I think if anything, it's kind of like the "me too" movement in that people will be more tuned into s...

Re: My list/summary of why the church can't be true... (24/25 complete)
What about the church's history of covering up the activities of sexual predators in leadership positions? Maybe discuss with item 22 but I think the current event situation goes beyond history. The church has been paying off victims and covering up crimes of local and general leadership for a long ...

Re: “Find a Husband” Rant
I can relate as a parent who was recently in this situation with several of my children who left the church. This while I was in the middle of a faith transition myself, I was a bit surprised at how quickly they figure things out and moved on. But when you are young, moving quickly is important in t...

Sometimes I think these moments with nature are part of the higher purpose of our lives. These are priceless moments. We are always in nature, we don't have to go anywhere. We are part of nature. We are nature. I think we can be self-aware at any time and any place and commune with nature. We simply...
