Merry Christmas Everyone!

No matter where you are on the belief of this day or how you choose to celebrate, it is my wish you find a place of peace on this Christmas day. Take time to reflect and understand what meaning you find. I think I can safely say there are many here on NOM who care and are here to share your thoughts...

Re: What are you drinking right now?

I'm drinking the usual right now... coke zero with fresh lemon and a splash of grenadine. Of course my doctor told me I should switch to coffee since it is better for you. She's a Mormon.

Re: My sister has taken her own life

Sparky I'm so sorry for your loss! Please feel all of our big cyber hugs and know you and your family are in our hearts. NOM is always a safe place to come when you need to "talk", a shoulder to cry on and lots of hugs. I have close family who suffer from mental illness and have attempted suicide, s...

Re: ... Crickets

I am so sorry about this. I can't imagine how hurtful it is. And that it has gone on so long - since 2011, that is too long. I know exactly how she feels as she made it very clear how she felt when I stopped going to church which was back in 2011. I try to understand. Today this hurts. My only wish...

Re: The IDGAF stage

I think its getting harder to remember the stages of pain and grief and disillusionment, but here's my advice anyway - if you can leave Mormonism behind do it. It's good for the soul. I recognize that not everyone is able to - people are worried about marriages, family, work. But I would say, the s...

Re: ... Crickets

It makes me sad when others are sad and besides like I said, today I'm doing much, much better! I am glad things are better DW and I have not crossed this bridge yet, and this is still a major source of anxiety. Yes, things are better but not resolved. They are better because my attitude has change...

Re: ... Crickets

There is always a chance the DD sent that Thanksgiving message and emoji to everyone on her contacts list. Good thought.... and if it was then at least I was thought of on that day of thanks. It was the first response out of her since the July wedding when she was so upset by my obvious lack of the...

Re: ... Crickets

Bear in mind that someday her shame from these actions towards you will be a source of inner reflection and a possible catalyst to truth. I speak from experience growing up with a very Nomish father and an exmo mother. The inner conflict that caused was definitely part of my journey. I have only tw...

Re: ... Crickets

That's a tough situation. I hope you get the chance to talk to her eventually. "Talking" will be difficult. I'm always up for a good sit down, calm discussion. I can usually have them with people, but not with this one! Some times I wonder if her refusal to talk with me is because she herself might...

Re: ... Crickets

I’m so sorry... this is the worst thing about this religion! I’m grateful to be out from under its spell too... both sides of the fence can feel lonely sometimes. Hope the tide shifts and she gets past those feelings. Hugs Thank you for the hugs! Though my parents were uber TBM I grew up being taug...

Re: It Is What It Is - Take 2

Great post! Again I offer you my warmest hugs and support. I am so sorry that your family and ward have treated you that way. I had a nice response typed up which I saved when I had to run an errand.... came back and now can't find it! So a shorter version is this; your family and friends are missin...

... Crickets

This morning I received a text from my uberTBM DD who has not spoken to me since, horror of all horrors, I wore a sleeveless dress to a family wedding back in July. The text was a simple "Happy Thanksgiving" followed by a turkey emoji. I called her immediately back. No answer. I then texted her back...

Re: A Good Thing

My former VT asked me yesterday and my RSP just texted me. They wanted to make sure my family and I had a place to go for Thanksgiving. Even when I was TBM, we were explicitly told to make sure the people on our routes had a place to go for Thanksgiving. The fact that our religion does this is not ...

Re: Got guilt?

I used to, but it's been a long time. Once I realized it was all part of the indoctrination I was able to recognize it and shut those feelings down when they happened. They don't come any more. It is nice to be able to live without the guilt of being punished for not wearing the Lord's approved unde...

Re: We're all Liars...and well practiced.

Sadly you are correct in our lying. In order to survive in that type of world we can't be honest. We all have seen what happens when we openly question and express our concerns. Being honest just is not on the plate in an abusive world if we want to survive. You learn fast to lie in an abusive relat...

Re: Journals

I too had volumes of journals that I started in high school. About 6 years ago, just after my shelf broke I sat down and read them all. They were pretty upsetting to read and brought up a lot of stuff I didn't want to relive. I knew one day after I am gone people would be reading this stuff. Did I r...

Re: The "coming Mormon revolution"?

Women weren't equal. They still aren't. Battered women were sent home to their husbands and told to do a better job obeying. They still are. There might be a brief side trip to a shelter, but I have heard of bishops tracking down women in hiding to take them home. Amen. Thank you GIT for saying thi...
