Re: Latest RFM Podcast Second Best in History?
<SNIP> I started teaching the Pearl of Great Price in the mid-80s. By actual account, I taught 59 sections. If we estimate 40 students in each, I taught 2360 students. In every class, the students were required to read the four accounts of the First Vision, and we spent three days talking about the...

Re: SLC Gay Pride Bashing
I know I will get attacked for this but here goes. I for one am sick and tired of all of this "pride" nonsense. My daughter was never popular with the boys. She is shy and a bit socially awkward but she always liked boys. Until she met another girl who took interest in her. Now, my daughter claims ...

Church of England prayers are a bit more humble: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GkK8wS2WWc Loves me some Monty Python! Re: Do You Come From Royal Blood?
Nope. My ancestors were just poor immigrants caught up in a frontier sex cult. Ummmm, yeah. I qualify for this one. One of Parley P's wives was a McGregor. Then you can tie that back to some of the McGregor Clan crests that say "Royal is our blood." It wasn't much better back in the highlands, with...

Re: Questions to get TBMs thinking
This one caused some cogdis for a TBM friend of mine: "What do you think about that 12,000 year old camp site they found out in the Utah west desert?" http://westerndigs.org/12000-year-old-camp-found-in-utah-may-have-experts-adjusting-their-theories-archaeologist-says/ Now most TBMs probably don't e...

Re: another modesty post -- apologies in advance
I'm sick of the topic, I really am. On the other hand, I have a 17-year-old daughter and we are in the thick of it. And I don't have all the answers: in truth I find myself pretty conflicted. Amen to this! But since we've been out of the church it hasn't been much easier. We can't bring ourselves t...

I experienced the probing questions as a youth, on my mission and both DW and I experienced inappropriate questions as adults. So behind the Mordor curtain, it seemed common practice to me.

Re: I feel sorry for our parents.
I know what the disappointment feels like, I've experienced it in multiple ways. The first time my eternal TBM goals were dashed was my first marriage, having my X cheat on me three different times. I looked at that temple cert on the wall and got so depressed it nearly drove me to suicide. The next...

Re: Corsair's Visit to Nauvoo with Believers
Thanks for the report. Brings back underwhelming memories as I went to those sites about 15 years ago. I tried to do the gymnastics to make those places like AOD and FW magical, but they didn't have the magic I was hoping for. If I had been honest with myself at the time it would have been more like...

Re: Russell M Nelson: commander of an invisible realm
This is an interesting observation! Totally makes sense, since the COB does not have the numbers in mortality, they can count members in the pretend afterlife. This may play into the watered down last days narrative in a subtle way, where redeeming the dead picks up steam as missionary work in the r...

Re: Things are rapidly changing in the LDS Church!!!
Poor TBMs need something to help them do the gymnastics and stay feeling super special in the world. The COB narrative seems to be working, watering down the former miraculous, making the mundane and uneventful special. Years ago I remember hearing a heartfelt and tearful testimony from a women in F...

Re: Mission Issues
I will say how glad I am that I never had to deal with the Blacks and Priesthood issues. Thought about this while listening to this Radio West podcast on the topic. Doug has three recent shows that get into the topic:

SLC Gay Pride Bashing
After reading about this incident yesterday I just can't get over it. https://www.sltrib.com/news/2018/06/05/police-say-man-attacked-by-mob-after-utah-gay-pride-festival/ I didn't attend the gay pride event last weekend in SLC, but I work across the street from there. If my gay daughter had been in ...

I can't remember what I left on the old board vs the new; just have to let the past go and move on I guess.

Elder Bednar did not wish to be outdone, so he added a few extra entries to his introduction card. Besides the usual, it read "Fourth of Twelve in the Quorum, Doctorate of organizational behavior from Purdue University, First Primate of Rexburg, Holder of the Royal Melchezidek Priesthood, Future Pr...

I can't imagine what all my friends must have been thinking by the time I belted out, "Lad, I don't know where ya' bin, but I see ya've wan first prize!" I don't recall applause, but I do recall about 20 deer-in-the-headlights stares. Hah! I remember that from a Doctor Demento CD I had as a kid. He...

Re: Mormonism's Market Value
Lastly, why the hell should poor Mormons in Africa pay tithing? Why the hell isn't the church constructing education facilities in 3rd world countries and getting into the micro loan business? Why the hell isn't the church dominating humanitarian efforts relative to other world religions? I'm glad ...

Re: Success is possible
My experience has been that most people who come to know the truth about mormonism, use the same skepticism and critical thinking they used to debunk mormonism, apply that to other religions, and realize that there is no evidence that any religion actually has "truth". Yup, that's how it played out...

Re: Alternate Universe
Quote Revelations 5:5-6 to him. It tells us Jesus is both the Lion and the Lamb, at least that's how I understand it. Of course the Book of Revelations seems like its own alternate universe. :D This is just one of so many examples of the narcissistic nature of monotheistic gods. Whereas polytheism ...

"I didn't know I needed an apology until I read that hoax."
I heard this quote on NPR this morning; it's from a black Mormon woman. Radio West will be doing a show today on the COB's 40th anniversary of the “Revelation on the Priesthood.” http://radiowest.kuer.org/post/black-and-mormon-today The other thread here on NOM on the apology hoax revealed how most ...
