Re: Is Trek gone for good? (I hope!)
Trek is just a big guilt/humility fest. See kids, you need to feel the pain of your ancestors and feel guilty about how easy your life is; you should be more faithful like them and tow the party line! Older generations love doing this to kids, pound on them about how we did things the right way or ...

Re: The American Religious Landscape in 2020
I suppose that some inactive Mormons may still claim being mormon on the census. i'm going to go with the jackmormon quotient which is a group of people that i have struggled to understand as both an active Mormon and a post-Mormon. I would identify myself as an atheist on that survey, but I know m...

Re: Independence Day
I'm sorry that you and your family had to go through that. My story is much less dramatic. The church essays came out. I read them and realized that i'd been lied to my whole life, and I was done. Since then, it's been a journey of largely finding and acknowledging myself and not seeing myself throu...

Re: No more “time only” temple weddings
As much as I hate the temple, this feels like a step backwards to me. Instead of saying that both men and women can be sealed to more than one person, they said that previously sealed women who want to get remarried (and DO value the temple) aren't even able to hold their second wedding in the temp...

Learning that nice and kind are not actually the same thing was a pivotal change in my personal development and understanding of my fellow humans.
Passive agressiveness. Mormons have it down.

Re: What do you believe about it now?
Mormonism = easy to disprove once you rip off the blinders As for all of religion, I'm an apathetic atheist. I don't see any real evidence for divinity that i'd be interested in worshipping, and I already wasted too much of my life on religion. If I found out there's something more after I die, i'll...
Re: I'm tired
I have studied Mormonism for many years I have been a member since 1981 with a brief hiatus of 18months. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt it is total Bullshit !!! And? i mean, I disagree with my husband on 90% of politics, I think. I ignore it and move on with life. She is allowed to believe diffe...

Re: The Moment of Transition
I'm fascinated with the moment of transition concept. Most postmos I talk to seem to have a precise moment when they reached the peak and started down the other side. Or maybe more like a rubber band stretching tighter and tighter until it finally snaps. I can remember the exact second that happene...

Lucked into a vaccination opening. My insurance told me to wait for them to notify me of an opening. So far, they are out of available openings for the foreseeable future, but a nurse, next door, told us they were looking for people to fill open spots. One shot down, one to go. I'm still amazed tha...

Legit question-- do teachers in UT drink coffee at school? I guess a lot of the teachers are Mormon, so maybe that's not really part of the culture. I can't say what the general consensus as far as coffee drinking at school in UT would be, and my school-aged offspring wouldn't care or talk aboot it...

My mental health would definitely require me to step out of that group. It's sad that some people really can't separate family from religion.

Red- As a 20yo Mormon bride, I want to say that I wish so much that I had really considered other options at that age. Seriously, I think you are giving your kids a fantastic gift even if it doesn't always feel that way in the view of Mormonism. My parents would say that they always told me I could ...

Legit question-- do teachers in UT drink coffee at school? I guess a lot of the teachers are Mormon, so maybe that's not really part of the culture. I mean, here in the non-morridor world, my kids' teachers largely love coffee. Their elementary music teacher loves it so much that she has massive amo...

Re: Church Volunteer Constraints
This is a huge part of the problem in areas of the church where I lived. It makes people resentful and irritated even when they aren't really able to identify those feelings. 100% do not miss the time suck that was the LDS church and trying to do my calling as well as everyone else's who didn't do t...

Re: Primary Teachers are Annoying
Before I left the Mormon church, a really heavy item on my self was related to this. It came from an internet board I used to frequent for Mormon moms some of them had left the church but stayed on the board. Anyways, one of the ex-mos told everyone to imagine these same scenarios playing out with a...

Re: Sexism of exmormon men
A large part of my experiences in discussing leaving Mormonism on the internet with males has felt like my opinion was invalid because they see me as not having had a seat at the table that I was banned from sitting at in the first place. Reddit exmo is rotten for understanding the experiences of wo...
