Re: Church’s truth claims can be tested
It actually teaches a false plan of salvation where there continues to be a literal hell, with a literal devil, for almost everyone who lives. Aw, c'mon HIPS, you know that God instructed his prophets and apostles to lie to people about a literal hell to scare them into being good (D&C 19). So now ...

Re: Church’s truth claims can be tested
The Book of Mormon is true and contains the fulness of the gospel. I love how people try to explain away fulness of the gospel somehow does NOT need to include the concepts of baptism for the dead, washings and annointings, temple endowments, celestial marriage. All of which are the pinnacle of morm...

Re: BYU and Higher Education Rule Changes - Freedom to Discriminate?
Faculty and students at BYU have precious little protection from the religious zealots who run the place. Those protections are about to get a lot smaller. This. Even now there is no/limited religious freedom protections at BYU. If you choose to be mormon one day or even baptist, you are good to go...

Re: Dallin Oaks: “I suggest that research is not the answer"
“I suggest that research is not the answer,” he said. Oh boy, it's getting almost comical the way they are chasing their tails lately. Actually, research is the answer, but unfortunately for Brother Oaks and company it's an answer that leads to the actual ANSWER. Reverse psychology is actually an e...

Its' tough to have a position when taking that position would show that you are completely wrong.
The poor leaders are in a no win situation. I am so glad I don't have to defend the indefensible any more.

Re: #whyIleftmormonism on twitter
Now that we've had three major attacks on doubters and critics by church leaders in recent weeks/months, I wanted to outline #WhyILeftMormonism and why the problems are real and why the church is working so hard to keep members from looking beyond correlated church materials. That's me haha... I pu...

Re: #whyIleftmormonism on twitter
Hey, quote some of the good parts for those of us who are not twits, er, I mean don’t twit, oh you know what I mean. They told me the three greatest enemies of the church were the gays, the feminists, and the intellectuals. I'm all three. #WhyILeftMormonism Because if it’s true it should be able to...

Turns out my oldest daughter was at this concert tonight and sat by/near John Dehlin. She just left the church within the last year and is moving faster than her old man.

Re: Is there a new word yet?
The church is still creating new content under the "MORMON MESSAGES" banner in 2019. Today they are linking from the first page of LDS.ORG to this mormon messages 2019 video. https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/mormon-messages-2019?lang=eng I get that it will take time to clear out all of the ol...

My favorite rumors would be that temple garments would only be used in the temple and outside of that you can wear normal underwear.
Of course no one is stopping you from going commando right now.

Re: WOW. The natural history sure blows holes in LDS Theology!
You simply cannot sweep the Garden of Eden and the Fall under the rug. The entire LDS plan falls apart without it. Without a literal fall of Man the atonement makes no sense, and neither does the temple. We are in a fascinating time when members are stuck between what their prophets and leaders, an...

It is like watching a slow motion car crash. We know that it is a wreck, but it just keeps going and going. I find it hilarious that the church thinks that the solution to their problem is to just say "Just believe" a thousand times and the problem of people leaving the church will go away. To truly...

Re: Elder Jensen teaches Epistemology
I find it fascinating that this is the best a general authority could come up with. If the LDS/Mormon church were actually true, this is something a general authority would be able to say. 1) I know Joseph Smith was a prophet, because he translated an ancient record, the Book of Mormon, which prophe...

In reality I was at this decision point at the age of 32. I would annually come across some church issue that would cause me to deeply question the possibility that the church was NOT true. At that age, I made the decision to shelf it all. Stop paying attention when these issues would arise and lean...

Re: Resign or Get Ex’d
In my imaginary world, I think I would go as well and try and have a reasonable and rational conversation as to why I no longer believe in the church's truth claims.
But in reality, I would probably take the power away from them and just resign.

Apologetic answer: all faiths have some truths, so those preachers were tapping into the same spiritual sources, albeit in a feeble and incomplete way. How is it, I have asked, that Moroni quoted Paul word-for-word from the KJV? Easy. Paul, Moroni, and the translators of the KJV were all getting th...

If find it interesting that some people roll their eyes at the suggestion that Joseph Smith borrowed things from other books. "How could he have read all those books?" Spoiler: unschooled frontier 19th century Americans were far more well read than the majority of high school educated 21st century ...
