Re: Church Member Records

It might not have been an annotation. When a member transfers to a ward the bishop is instructed to contact the member's prior bishop to get all the dirt on them. From the current handbook in section 33.6: Sometimes a member has not lived in the same ward continuously for at least one year. In that ...

Re: 36 new missions created - why?

Some of that growth is natural, more missionaries means more missions. I'm assuming that 36 new missions all at once is far and above the natural growth rate. Leaders have lots of statistics in front of them and I'm guessing that one of them is telling them that lots of kids are leaving the church a...

Re: The Reality of Woke Ideology

Information silos are just a means of surrounding oneself with what one wants to hear and repeating nonsense back to people who want to hear it. Once I read a thread a person here created that was very close to what you describe. The only difference was that the nonsense was repeated back to people...

Re: Martin Harris- why did Jos. Smith trust him with the 116 pages?

I don't know whether Joseph Smith trusted Harris. He may have felt obligated because Harris was bankrolling the operation. Harris may have threatened to pull funding after the first several rejections.

Re: One Can of Worms... out of many.

It probably all started when Joseph Smith thought, "Wouldn't it be cool if..." when he heard until death do you part during someone's wedding. That or it started when he read someone else's thoughts about that. Matthew 22:30 probably wasn't even considered. If the verse did come up they probably did...

Re: Israel

Why don't Jews like Mormons? Perhaps because Mormons claim to be Jews when they are not? Mormons want to erase Israel - want the messiah to come to America instead? It could be related to church members doing proxy baptisms for holocaust victims in the 1990s. It could also be that Jews hold an unfa...

Re: NOMference Sunday afternoon Fall 2023

Gotta say, church revenues must be way down.

I don't pay very close attention but it seems like several conferences have gone by without a mention of tithing. I've heard references to tithing in at least a half dozen talks this conference.

And he talked about them as if they are bad things. Uncertainty feeds curiosity, exploration, revelation, hope.

Oh gods a new buzz word... Hear him and a few others didn't take. While I'm anxious for "covenant path" to go away forever, I'd rather it be replaced with nothing. I don't doubt Nelson's sincerity in his comments about covenants, kingdoms of glory, etc. but it sounds like an extremely sad and dissa...

And, they have to have a gospel purpose. They can’t just be for social interaction. -613 I just felt like it needed a weird number, because it is a weird belief that socialization for itself has no purpose. Socialization is the gospel. It's a point leaders don't get. They're more concerned about sa...

I mean, if people turn down a calling, maybe honor that or... gasp... ask them why or what their wishes are. Don't start up with the obligation garbage.

My favorite Moroni Day tradition is putting on brown-face and watching the Moroni's Lament music video, by "I Heard Him Come" writer Jeff Goodrich.
Someone should do a Jan 6th montage with that song. Captain Moroni's Lament.

Re: Bednar dedication of the Smith home

This home was a place where they obeyed the commands that the Lord recently had given to parents: to teach their children the gospel and bring them up in light and truth.
Jesus didn't tell parents to do that until he told Joseph Smith.

Was it also the house where the Lord revealed sliced bread?

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?

I wish I could remember a few specifics. It's been about 10 years since I've done an endowment session and the memories fade. The insights I had were never anything amazing. At first learning something each time meant I got a little farther with memorizing the presentation at the veil. After that it...

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?

As a full believer it never felt like I was making things up, it felt like I was discovering the deep hidden meanings buried in things where the meaning was there all along just waiting for me to discover it. Reflecting back I can say that the ordinances in the temple have little intrinsic meaning. ...

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?

I'm a convert, so I wasn't bone-weary of the Sunday School lessons by the time I went to the temple for my endowments. Sure, it was just a retelling of everything you hear during Sunday School, but it didn't elicit the, "not this again" reaction that it would elicit from me today. I 110% bought into...

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?

I'll start off with a tangent. What is the policy for when a person is eligible to receive their endowment and is that policy different for men and women? Back in the day when I received my endowment, women generally couldn't receive their endowment unless they were getting married or serving a miss...
