Re: My Mushroom Journey

I wish you well, Stealth. I find this fascinating. Personally, I find that certain pieces of music or scenes from nature can send me into a mild to moderate euphoria, and I know how to use them to achieve this, so I'll stick to them for now, but thanks for sharing. :D 8-) Absolutely. Add breathwork...

Re: The Armpit Crab story

DW is very skeptical of "soaking", etc. and I also brought up this story as well and she dismissed it. I'm not sure if I should be more skeptical of it but I do tend to find it somewhat believable.

Re: THAT's why it changed from "teaching" to "ministering!"

I listened to the entire podcast which was very good and a novel take on the damage the church is doing and what they actually believe. Hagoth, I think your analysis is excellent and it shows another great example of what may have contributed in large part to this change. That is spot on analysis th...

Wow...it's actually pretty scary. Handmaid's Tale crap right there.
That's exactly what I was thinking. That show (The Handmaid's Tale) really illustrates where we are headed if this new blending of an extreme religion and political power is allowed to take root. Scary as hell.

"The Unbelieving" Off Off Broadway Play

Over the weekend I was in NYC with DW to watch a play called The Unbelieving. I may have mentioned it before but I was interviewed when I was a bishop about 10-11 years ago by a researcher who was researching clergy who had lost their faith. A fellow NOM member back then through NOM messaged me and ...

Re: Reconsidering participation in ministering

I just don't think it works for a lot of people. Sounds like overall it isn't meeting your needs. It's not helping you or anyone else other than the example you gave. It may be time to let go of something that is spiritually or emotionally wasteful. May your spiritual bowels be blessed to retain tha...

Re: Fish out of water

This is definitely one of the major areas where the rubber meets the road. It can be really challenging to know to whom or to what extent do we open up and share our belief or non-belief. I know with good friends of ours who are still in the church, I still don't believe it is best to share a lot ho...

My Mushroom Journey

Hagoth, I can't thank you enough Brother. This is dedicated to you! Words are so inadequate but here goes: In June I began to hear more on the NOM board and from some other people about the power of psychedelics. I began to hear stories about how they could help and heal. I did a lot of research inc...

Re: I have had an NOM vision

Welcome to NOM and thanks for posting Conman52. I would like to bear my testimony that the vision you had is true. At least for me. When I realized that I wanted to preserve my marriage after my faith crisis and educating my wife on all the problems in the church was backfiring, I pivoted to showing...

Re: Should I tell her ?

In general, I am not a huge fan of trying to intervene and "save" others from the church or trying to educate them. In my experience, this can lead to even more retrenchment and the risk of a deep rupture in the relationship. I tried to do this with my wife and it not only wasn't effective but It pu...

Re: Shifting Moral Tectonics

This ambiguous message with plausible deniability is getting old and pathetic. What does he mean by this? Have some courage! Give an example! Or is it "politically incorrect" to say that you believe people who are gay should never have a romantic or sexual relationship or committed long term relatio...

Re: Ultra-quick summary of conference?

There were a few things that were just kind of meh when I heard them, but then when I had time to think about it It kind of pissed me off. Like For Strength of Youth. The new one is light years better than the one I grew up with in the 90s. It is no where near perfect. But they way they just presen...

Re: Mushrooms and Mysteries

The mushrooms did in fact finally find me. Trying to work on setting a date and being observant of set and setting and intention. Glad to hear it. Please return and report. Are you working with someone or going solo? I have a sitter and I have a therapist so I think that part of the setting is good.

Re: The Q-15 has a safety net. How would it work in a crisis?

There must some sort of hold that the senior leaders have over those just called. A while back, I wondered what trouble Elder Gong could get into if the world saw the picture with his son and his son's significant other (Are they married? I do not remember.). I'm trying to imagine what sort of cons...

Re: Does the LDS church bring you closer to God?

I was raised LDS from the get go. It definitely drew me closer to God. But I am a white cis/het male so it was made for me to work. I don't know what I believe about god anymore but once Mormonism started to not work for me I began deconstructing everything.

Re: Setting and maintaining boundaries reduces anxiety

Excellent Sparky! Really happy to hear it. I can confirm from my own experience, and so many others, that if you were raised LDS you probably have very little if any experience with boundary work because we are told that it is God and the church and our leaders that set the boundaries in our lives. ...

Re: Gospel of Mark vs. Gospel of Luke

What I take from your points is that Luke really wasn't written by a friend and direct traveler with/follower of Paul as is generally asserted in traditional Christendom I think there are few scholars of reputation that believe that. The critical analysis just doesn't seem to support that. I don't ...
