Re: Bishopric -> EQP: And I feel.... numb.

Dude, been there, done that, still doing it. Just one more year until my Stake YM calling should end. I debate resignation frequently. Luckily it is pretty easy, especially when I skip half the meetings or more. I tell myself this will be my last serious calling. I also teach primary with DW. Gets m...

Re: Tithing Question + An Introduction

Yeah, unless something changed since last tithing settlement they still can't see. My BP asked if I pay like he does, in kind (stock) directly to the church. I told him "I pay directly to the church out of every paycheck just like I always have." Which is true, $10 a check to help pay for our share ...

Re: Heal Me

I have a minor and painful, but hopefully short term back injury from city league soccer. While with my parents over the weekend my dad asked if he could give me a blessing. I know it must have hurt when I told him no. We didnt talk about why. I dont believe it would have done anything for me, but m...

Re: Is NOM really "middle way" to any extent anymore?

Great posts everyone! You guys are the heart of my spiritual and deep thoughts world. I am one who partially feels trapped. But also I recognize that I cannot change my stripes. I am Mormon. My family and MorCor community are Mormon. I have found FB communities that are more active, have larger memb...

Re: Near Death

This is a topic that fascinated me as a TBM and still intreages me now. There are strong opinions in both camps (they do or don't happen). My heart wants to believe in afterlife and overlapping spaces between mortality and whatever exist before/after. My brain is extremely skeptical. I have arrived ...

Re: The day it all sinks in

Many studies have shown the benefits of community with religion. Especially with men. We are happier, have better marriages, live longer, are healthier.

That is frustrating for you M.

May this be a temporary blip on your continued journey to happiness.

I have had similar things happen. I was reading D&C 132 and had this overwhelming impression that the church is totally made up. I later confirmed it through Google searches.

Tender mercies

So glad you liked it. The stars really came into alignment for this podcast. I think it may be the best podcast I've ever done. (Which may or may not be saying something depending on your point of view.) Hard to say C. You have had some winners. This one really goes up with the best. Just shared wi...

Re: Arthur C. Brooks at BYU

This is a great talk. Take 11 minutes and listen. He did a great job in preparing for his audience. He was witty, entertaining, and drove home a great message. Kudos to BYU for bringing him in. Sadly, I am sure that the majority of students in attendance discussed how he is a dry Mormon (er Latter-d...

Re: Mormon Rumspringa

I thought it would be cool if there were a Mormon Rumspringa. Rumspringa is the Amish tradition where youth can go do their own thing, break the rules, and then decide if they want to stay Amish. Wouldn’t that be great for Mormon youth and adults? Take a month long vacation from Mormonism. Go try d...

You're name is Nebuchadnezzar too? Well I'll be damned! I knew we had this spiritual connection from the pre-existence. PS. My wife was at the Masonic lodge this morning. RR and I were st Rick's at the same time and ran in some of the same sketchy crowds. I got to speak to the dean and spend some probation time there too. Stupid narks. I'll wait for another 10 minutes and see if anyone joins. 213-493-0420 Pin: 08822 Full disclosure: you can be 99.9% anonymous but the uber conference site will capture your phone number. I'm the...

Wow, lots of judgment there but if that was said all in one meeting I am impressed. You could take 10 years of WC meetings I have been in and you still would have half the awareness about these items. What RR said, but just dont go (if the family can support it) or do the blue shirt thing. I did las...

I saw this a few years ago during a quick trip to Seattle. That also happened to be the one and only time that I've had a chance to meet up with some NOM posters in person--a few of us went out to dinner. The show is very clever but pretty vulgar in places. The music is catchy (and surprisingly cle...

I like where you are going with this. I often wonder this about leaders. Local and global. However, none of the leaders today are claiming to receive translations for non-existent plates or to speak for God in such outlandish "and thus I the Lord say that this thing I personally require to benefit J...

Re: How the journey through Mormonism is like the Sixth Sense

Yeah I was thinking it would be a fun project to write short mock screenplays of some movies that have that 'leaving Mormonism' parallel to them. Truman Show is a great one. I haven't seen The Others but I've heard good things. I also havent see The Village in a long time but it feels like that cou...
