Re: Divorce Advice?

A few things I've seen. Debt management. No matter what the divorce decree says, it always falls apart on debt. Especially early on. Because the loans likely have both signatures on them, they'll pursue whoever signed, decree be damned. Close every joint account you have. Take out new individual lo...

Re: Divorce Advice?

Yes, I am planning to talk to an attorney tomorrow. I know they can give me the good legal advice I need. I just wanted to know for those of you who have been through a divorce or if you just know enough about it for things to do and not do, any advice is appreciated. DW and I might still be able t...

Re: More Conversation with DW

She disagreed and said that it's because I've turned my back on the church and that I will only be happy if I return to the church, that my depression will go away if I do. Time to give her Holland's conference talk about depression. Is divorce an option for you? I feel like it is an option, ...

Re: More Conversation with DW

Well.... shit. This is no bueno. While my experiences are not identical, I can feel your pain. Yes, marriage counseling can help - but not LDS family services! Hang in there, your family is worth saving even if you don't make it to the CK. Thanks Kish, I will see if she will do counseling with me. ...

More Conversation with DW

So, I started a conversation last night with DW that lasted for several hours. I don't know that it was the best way to start it, but I just said: "do you know why I've been distant lately?" She had commented earlier in the day that I seem distant, so I was trying to explain that. She didn't know wh...

Re: Update on my "Slow Fade"

This last Sunday was our stake conference, and I forced myself to go. The first talk, from the stake president, who I know was all about not losing your faith for historical or intellectual reasons. I could easily tell that our bishop had talked to him, and that the reason for his talk was in large...

Update on my "Slow Fade"

Wow, so many things have happened since I opened up to our bishop about my loss of faith in JS and the church. I've been released from the calling as GD teacher, and don't have an official calling right now. I've been just going to sacrament meeting. Bishop sends me texts periodically, quotes from G...

Re: Text from Bishop

Stop telling him anything. He's just going to string you along. You've told him your done so be done talking to him about it. If you want to do scouts then say yes to 3 or 4 weeks. Give him exactly the time your willing to help out. It's not like this is a super technical thing they need to do. NFL...

Text from Bishop

For those of you following recent events about my meeting with our bishop last week, I just received the following text from him: "Could you help us for a couple of weeks with scouts for the 12 year olds while we figure out who to call there? Also, I've been praying for you." Help me respond! I just...

Re: Meeting with Bishop Tonight

Well, it's over now and I have to say it went better than I expected. I'll try to recap. We talked for over an hour, the first 10-15 minutes was just catching up on how life was going, work, etc. Then he asked what he could do for me. I said "Bishop, I've been going through a rough bout of depressio...

Meeting with Bishop Tonight

Following up from my other thread, I will be meeting with my bishop tonight at 8pm. Going to try and keep it as short as possible. Tell him I need to be released, that my mental health is suffering right now. We'll see how it goes. I'll return and report tomorrow. I'm just really ready to start tran...

Re: Struggling...A Lot

I'm ready to meet with our bishop, tell him where I am, but I'm not sure exactly what to say. I want to do things in the best way possible, so I could use all of your advice. I'm thinking of sending an email to just close family, a brief and concise email, just so they know. DT, you have a tendency...

Re: Struggling...A Lot

DT, obviously your wife doesn't understand that you are REALLY having suicidal ideation. I think you need to see a therapist so you can get some clinical validity for her to consider. It might help her understand that this is the real sh*t. Do you think she would shrug it off if it was made clear t...

Re: Struggling...A Lot

Wow! So many wonderful responses! Thank you so much everyone, it means a lot to me. I don't have time to respond to all of them right now, but just checking in to say I'm doing OK. I'm meeting with the bishop next Sunday and will be brief about needing to be released. Today will likely be my last le...

Struggling...A Lot

My mental health has deteriorated over the past several months. I've really been trying to make everything work with church, teaching gospel doctrine. I've been telling myself that it will be better with 2 hour church, and only teaching once a month. I don't know if that's true. I'm depressed, have ...

Halloween Unveiling 2018

Are we doing this again? I still look forward to it, hoping I recognize someone.

I'm going to be braver this year, full head shot and wearing an "immodest" shirt. Pic was taken after running the St George marathon earlier this month.

Re: What do you all do for tithing settlement?

Yeah, the Bishop gave his "hoorah" for tithing settlement yesterday in Sacrament. He's starting early this year. For me, I think it will be fine. I pay on surplus, and have for years now, wife knows. Wife is actually "behind" on paying her tithing. If it goes like last year, Bishop will just ask me ...

Re: I'm Leaving Soon

Zack, So happy you have reached this level of detachment from Mormonism. So sorry it came because of the hate from the institution. The equations the church puts forward don’t solve for me either. Prophet = God’s voice God = Love Prophet ≠ Love’s voice I always appreciated your level-headed and matu...

Re: Guess who the new GD teacher is in our ward?

Quick update. So far I've been doing well teaching GD every other Sunday. The topic on following the prophet was difficult, but most of them I've been able to teach in a way that I don't feel uncomfortable. A few comments one time where family members who left were mentioned really got under my skin...
