Re: Applying Santa to Mormonism
You might argue that believing in a mythical character is bad for kids, that they need to confront reality. I would disagree. I would disagree because if we embrace the fantasy we can then embrace the ideals. This is exactly where I am in terms of my faith journey. I believe myths are important. Es...

Re: Taking off the garment
Okay, So I'm weird. I actually like wearing them. I did try not wearing them for a while, but regular undies always give me wedgies. I never get wedgies with garms. Also it's nice to have an extra layer between my bra underwire and my boobs. Random underwire boob jabs are not fun. I did buy a spool...

I say this kind of stuff all the time as a "joke" just to analyze the reactions I get. I'm hoping to find a sympathetic soul.

Re: DW renewed her TR by herself
I've been through this and it hurts. Our Bishop extended a calling to my wife and she accepted. The following Sunday she wanted to be set apart so she wandered over to his office by her self thinking the Bishopric would be doing it. Nope. Just the Bishop was there. He spent a few minutes talking to...

Re: Taking off the garment
I don’t know as this will help at all. I think it’s different for women than for men and I no longer wear them. I did for a few years during/after my faith crisis when I wasn’t sure what I believed or what I wanted to do. I rarely wore them every day, night and day, as a TBM. I had health issues, an...

Re: Taking off the garment
I did buy a spool of underwear elastic and, as soon as I get a free minute, I'm going to lower the waist lines to normal underwear waist height. Maybe I will start a black market, under ground, garment altering business. I thought of altering them at one point, but never got around to it....

Thinking about a kid in my Primary class
This is really long and rambling, and I don’t really have any problems or need any solutions. It is just something that’s been on my mind… Several years ago I was asked to do some missionary work at the temple and was partnered with a new woman in the ward, Jessica (not a real name). Jessica is the ...

Re: Male feminism vs. TBM women?
Sometimes women from a family of very strong women see no problem with the sexism because it doesn't hurt them. I have a daughter in law who is this way. She sees no sexism at all in the church, just different "roles" yet, most Traditional men would call my son horribly hen pecked. She has a strong...

Re: Why some DWs/DHs follow and others don't?
I've thought about this a lot. My situation is a little different because my husband was an apathetic Mormon long before my shelf broke. It caused a lot of tension in our marriage as I tried to make us live a better version of mormonism and felt totally unsupported in doing so. This really resonate...

Re: It's me, Enoch Witty
Then my son was born. As I got to know him and consider my own past in the church, I realized that I don't want that future for him. In a way, this is where my shelf truly broke, but my eyes had still not been opened, and I still couldn't bring myself to tell my wife. I used caring for my son as an...

Re: Elder Oaks - encouraging holiday insensitivity?
Oh, by the way, one of my pet peeves is people who think the 12 days of Christmas come before Dec25. Just another person here who thanks you for that. My in-law wanted us to do some 12 days of Christmas thing with them and when my husband asked me about it, I just gave him the look. "I know, I know...

Re: Grooming minds
1) Baptism I wanted to be baptized when I was 8, but I also didn't at all understand the theological, cultural, and social commitments I was making. I had been indoctrinated that it was cool to be baptized, so I wanted to do it. Simple as that. It's like, I can't claim to have been forced to do it,...

Re: Correlated from the beginning
I had an interesting encounter with this book several months ago. One of my TBM friend's husband saw me at the library. We began to chat about how we both have the library send away for really random titles (I actually had one in my hand from a Mennonite library in California about Faith Crisis in E...

Leah Remini documentary
My husband has been working a lot from home in the evenings. Sometimes I'll put on a movie so I can sit next to him while he works until I fall asleep. Last night I put on the first episode of Leah Remini's film on Scientology. The only thing he said when it was over: "Why did you watch that?" I shr...

Re: Family Search is a see through sham
I love genealogy work. I’ve never been into the temple stuff, even as a TBM. I love the history, the people, the search, old books, photos, etc. And I’ve always considered (even as a TBM) temple work to be Mormonism’s version of ancestor worship. That being said, I used to do a lot of family history...

Re: Recommended Reading List
Mormon Enigma I read it while still TBM many years ago and what I remember from it most is how hated Emma Smith always was at church (I know that's changed a bit now) but after reading Mormon Enigma I believed she was justified in everything she did. I also borrowed it from the home of a man who ha...

Re: Small exercise challenge for month of December
I wasn't going to join in because I knew there was no way I would do it every day, but I have managed to do it three days in a row! An hour long speed walk, hour long bike ride with the kids, and an hour of dance. I don't expect to do anything tomorrow. Sundays are always terrible for any kind of ph...

Re: Deseret news article on doubt
Terrible article, but at least a good number of the commenters have got it right. The thing is, I've been kicking and screaming for years. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't happening. It's called depression, anger, family arguments, and marital discord. I've endured headaches and ...

Re: Scripture and prayer time
I don’t know about the scripture reading, since my TBM husband hasn’t opened his scriptures in ten years (back when I decided we’d read together and it lasted about a month.) In fact, I don’t think he even knows where his scriptures are. (They’re behind some other books on the bookshelf covered in a...

Returning and reporting. Took the single topic I could feel good about in the GC talk and focused on it. Got more positive feedback than I've ever gotten after a talk. Was referenced in prayers, SS and RS comments. I think there are more of us out there than we realize...... Good job! I've ...
