Re: The Flawed Logic of Governments and Religion

It truly frightens me to be told that average adults read less than one book - ever again. I'm off to fact check that now...

Re: Let's play a game: Fantasy First Presidency League

Before looking at anyone else’s guesses, I came up with: Round 1: Oaks, Holland, Bednar I think Bednar gets in soon. Also, does Bednar remind anyone else of Monk? You know, the exacting, microphobe, tv character. I bet when the grandkids visit and move the small figurines by the living room lamp, h...

Re: The Flawed Logic of Governments and Religion

I think the worst part is that people's biases prevent them from even seeing the similarity. The mostly conservative population of Utah would likely (rightly!) look at the statement from Australia and see it as a massive overreach and violation of privacy. The same people would look at what Oaks sai...

Re: Have any GA's talked about a faith/truth crisis?

It’s actually made me glad I adhered to the rules. If the blame had been shifted to my worthiness, I don’t know I would have found my way out the way I did. The idea that one has to be following the commandments to feel the spirit has also cemented my belief that Joseph couldn’t have been a prophet ...

Re: Have any GA's talked about a faith/truth crisis?

Yep. With the connection between sin and doubting any GA admitting to a serious faith crisis would be also admitting to sin. How many Bishops respond to admitted faith crises by asking about pornography, not praying or reading scriptures, or various other possible sins or failures. The assumption t...

Re: Have any GA's talked about a faith/truth crisis?

I would think for a GA to even admit that they had experienced a faith crisis would be like putting a damper on their "church progression". Kind of like, "Yeah, you made it through that bad spot but what were you doing there in the first place?" Yep. With the connection between sin and doubting any...

It's a good sign - I wish you luck. Don't lose hope either. My wife found apologetics to be completely unfulfilling and they helped to push her out.

Thank you Alas and Jfro. I know there's not much I can do, but just having all you NOM folks around to commiserate with is helpful.

Re: Stop telling the sick and dying to have faith, it isn't helping

Your poor aunt!! How horrible. I don't think very many people have the emotional tool kit to deal with other peoples' suffering. So "just have faith" becomes their cop out. It's really aggravating and f-ed up because it shifts blame onto the person who is already suffering. I think a better thing t...

Re: Stop telling the sick and dying to have faith, it isn't helping

I am very sorry for your aunt and your family. It is very painful to watch someone suffer in pain for years and wish for death. I watched my father-in-law go through this for 7 years. He received blessings and prayers. I hoped that they would bring him comfort, but I don't know if they did through ...

Stop telling the sick and dying to have faith, it isn't helping

I posted this to Reddit this morning. Thought I'd share here too: On Saturday evening, I went with my wife and kids, parents, and grandma to visit an aunt in a nursing home. They all know I'm out of the church, they've started to come to terms with it I think. While we're there exchanging Christmas ...

Well, the cat is out of the bag. I'm saving a copy for future reference.

I bet someone at K&M is going to be having a bad day.

If they are able to identify who made this, what can the church actually do against them?
I'm definitely not a lawyer but, I'd have to guess, not a damn thing.

Re: Help for TBM-lite spouse?

A little different since it wasn’t a spousal relationship, but my younger brother was a hell of an exmo ambassador. He was out for almost twenty years before me. He never criticized my faith, he never made me feel stupid for believing. He’d point out problems with how LGBTQ people are judged and har...

Re: Resign or Get Ex’d

I think that would be interesting. Get ex’d but still go to church. Take the sacrament, raise your hand in Sunday school. Basically act like nothing happened. I wonder if the bishop or someone would try to stop you? Sam Young said that on his first day back in church after he was ex’d, the deacon w...

Re: Resign or Get Ex’d

Exed even though i wouldnt attend. My family to whom the exing would matter all know me and know the grounds for my exing reflect on the churchs stupidity, not me. If I resign, it's on me. Re: "There is No Integrity Left in the Church"

When someone on FB suggested bugging the room, Mike actually responded that it would be illegal and he did not recommend anyone do so. I think he figured out a way to record it, certainly, but I don’t know if that was the approach.

If so, congratulations on the set he carries around every day.

Re: I don't believe much in signs, but this one makes me wonder if God wants me to spread the truth lol

I don’t think the odds are as small as you assume. As you noted, he was referred to Reddit first. You’ve gotten quite a bit of traction there as an honest review of Saints and the Essays. It’s the first place I point anybody asking where they can get a deeper analysis of them. If they search for the...
