Re: Anyone want to discuss the changes to the temple?
Does the slideshow make a beep sound when it is time to move to the next slide? Does the church try to make it sound like a covenant to wear garments 24/7? Remember wearing garments was only an instruction. Are you stuck back in the days of the flannelboard? :) Ahh yes, the flannel board. As a kid,...

Re: The Great Apostasy didn’t really happen according to new Maxwell Institute book.
It's crazy that this is coming from the Maxwell Institute because as has already been said in the thread, if you take this one step further the entire need for Mormonism crumbles and undercuts Joseph Smith's First Vision claims as well. Not that most members will ever read the book, but it's amazin...

Re: Noah and the Flood
Noah and the ark was my first real broken shelf. Mid 40’s and I finally allowed myself to analyze this story and agree that there was no way all of the animals on earth could fit in that boat. I allowed myself to believe this must be a symbolic story…then I moved on to Adam and Eve…. I think for ma...

Re: The Great Apostasy didn’t really happen according to new Maxwell Institute book.
I think this is just another story of the church doctrine collapsing from within. There are plenty of examples, but a few include: 1) Book of Abraham- the church held onto the theory that the BoA was translated directly from the papyrus….until it finally agreed with Egyptologists that the papyrus wa...

The Great Apostasy didn’t really happen according to new Maxwell Institute book.
The SLTrib ran an article today from Peggy Fletcher-Stack about a new book out of the Maxwell Institute explaining that Mormons get the Great Apostasy wrong. Here are some excerpts. Let the gaslighting from TBMs begin. “Latter-day Saints generally believe that Jesus established a church during his m...

Don’t forget that young women can now hand out towels at the temple baptistery. Big steps.

Re: Thoughts on priesthood blessings and feeling the spirit meaning the church is true
I’ve evolved on priesthood blessings. I see them like more of a pep talk. Think of how invigorating a great half time speech by Knute Rockne (think the locker room speech in the movie Rudy). These can be inspirational, give you chills, and make you believe in the cause. If healing blessings really w...

Re: Consciousness
This is probably not the same topic, but when I think of the brain and consciousness I often think of Battlestar Galactica. There is a scene where they have to reach into the brain of a Cylon. It has been too long to remember what they were doing, but touching certain areas helped them connect. Well...

Mormonism unchecked
I was ponderizing a few weeks ago about what the church would be like today if after moving out west with BY, the church was able to create its own country rather than the Utah area, previously Mexico becoming part of the USA. What would the church look like it it was unchecked from the norms of a n...

How do you label yourself regarding your belief?
When I first joined NOM a few years ago, I was much more fluid in my spiritual beliefs. I was still part TBM and trying to find my way forward… Today, I am still trying to find my way forward. I have a difficult time calling myself an atheist for some reason. I really don’t believe anything in the c...

Re: Sam Young’s Crusade continues
I agree with his reasoning here: I started speaking out when I realized that Davis was a registered sex offender from Utah and, despite this, he was put in a position of authority in our local congregation. This fact raised two concerns: The LDS Church teaches that church leaders have the "gift of ...

I saw this article on Reddit and thought I would place it here. It is about a man’s journey to protect children when the church is trying to protect the predator…you’ve heard the story…same story different day. https://www.postbulletin.com/news/local/rochester-church-of-latter-day-saints-member-spea...

Re: Relaxed mission attire
Seems the white shirts and ties have become a negative brand image. This means people in Europe will no longer have the visual cue to cross to the other side of the street when they spot missionaries up ahead. I think the European people and all people of the world will quickly adapt to identity ot...

Declining church-goers and creative changes
Here is a good read about how some churches are responding to the declining number of church-goers.
Do you envision any similar/ creative ideas like these from the LDS church?

US Religion Census and the LDS church
The SL Tribune posted an article about survey results on churches in America. The method for data collection was simply to ask each church how many members attended. Some results from the LDS church reflect the church’s ongoing commitment to inaccuracy. A few key figures to mention. “For the LDS Chu...
