Re: do I want to catch the monkey?

How to say this? Bearing in mind that this post refers to the original post in this thread and another post on another part of the board. I asked yesterday on another thread for incontestable evidence. But other than casual conversation or conforming the wackiness of the COJCOLDS the evidence isn't ...

Re: Incontestable II

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm really looking for logic and facts. We've already discussed, the implausibility of COJCLDS being the one true church given the minuscule global membership, the injustice of LBGT, the role of women in the church etc. and those things weigh heavily on a very creaking...

Incontestable II

If you were given one hour to sit with your TBM/NOM spouse and explain why the church is demonstrably false, what would your big hitters be? What are the points that you would make that could be considered more or less kryptonite to the truth claims of the church? I know there's CES letter, Letter t...

I’m going to coin a new term for these fireside gatherings on doubts.

The Mormon Fyreside - where apostles promise answers but deliver hurrican tents, soaked mattresses, and cheese sandwiches!
Watched the Fyre documentary on Netflix. Was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Re: Does truth really matter?

The objectivity of fact is not the whole story. Surely an acceptance and awareness of the truth matters? ... (1)Well, again, we would have to have to define "truth" wouldn't we? (2) but that's their choice isn't it? On point (1) that can be a pretty wide discussion, the Philosophy of Epistemology, ...

Re: Does truth really matter?

However, people don't always want medical truths either - consider people who smoke and cite the evidence of their 90 year old uncle who has smoked since he was ten years of age and was knocked over by a bus. And evidenced-based medicine isn't a given either e.g. drug trials funded by big pharma, p...

Re: Does truth really matter?

I'd also bet that if you were dealing with a medical issue, the "truths" that you doctor shares with you based on current scientific knowledge and tests are going to be much more important than any "truths" your doctor got from emotions. I'm pretty dang sure gravity is true. I doubt I could find to...

Re: I told my husband

Within 24 hours though, he brought home a bouquet of flowers for me, and I left him a small gift - brand new garments for him with a note that said I love him just the way he is - and we had some very good talks about his fears and my issues. It is the most emotionally connected I have felt to him ...

Re: Areas where science has forced the church to change their story/approach/whatever?

to answer a question not set: where has the church changed their story? I can't think of one thing about the church where there isn't a twist or murky story. WoW, BoA, BoM, Baptism (early saints used to baptise and rebaptise to keep cleansing sins). Temples ceremony, paid ministry, marriage (polygam...
