Re: Carthage Jail
Just this week my #2 DD was telling me about what she is learning in seminary. How JS translated the BOM. At least they had me tikned the Seer Stone. I told her more of the story (folk magic, money digging, no plates used, etc...). I am not sure if I am inoculating or just pre-cracking shelves but ...

Re: Carthage Jail
Yeah I can say the same checkboxes (seminary, BYU religion courses, thousands of hours in church, mission, etc...) and somehow they never got around to teaching some key events outside of the whitewashed and mythical version of these stories. I was calculating that I must have testified to ransome s...

Re: Meeting with Stake Pres.
Congrats on the job brother. Condolences on the long game in the middle. Many of us are there with you. One thing it took me some time to realize and come to grips with is that despite "truth", etc... is that we dont get to choose how others respond to our commitment to the "gospel". We can claim ou...

Re: I think my beliefs are shifting again
I love this group. That is all. MoStories isnt the same. My other FB groups are nothing like NOM. I suppose my increased apathy on the FB groups could lead me to more conversations here. I am just not patient enough to type on my phone. RR you are so eloquent which means you are either really patien...

Re: Your Favorite GA
I though Steven Covey should have been a GA. His book “Spiritual Roots of Human Relations” was way ahead of the curve back on the 70’s Didn’t he leave the church for having an affair? It was his co-founder of Franklin Covey. With a name like Hyrum Smith could you imagine him keeping it in his pants...

Re: Basketball Fellowshipping
I play ball 3 times a week at an LDS building across town. If/when I stop going to Sunday meetings, I suppose I will keep going M/W/F mornings with the Elders of Israel!

Re: How did I believe this?
Amen to all of your posts. I have live all of those essentially. Maybe in a different sequence, but all those challenges plus 1000 more. Yet I still go. Family roots are deep and pull with real consequences. Maybe someday I will part ways. So far it is the slow drift. DW is coming along a few years ...

Zach, you are one of the noble and great ones. Praise be as tou continue in your journey.
We hope you come back. Your wisdom and experience is valuable to our collective conscious.
We will probably do a wordprint study to figure out who you are upon the second coming

Re: Melonakos Interview with John Dehlin
I had to put down Melonakos' book because of my other studies, (I will finish it when I can), but I must admit to some eye rolling at some of the leaps of logic she took to build her forgery case. Not to say there isn't some evidence, but she does make some assumptions. Other than that it's very ey...

Re: I Just Don't...Care
Kyle, I'm just making a guess here, but it sounds to me like the apathy with the church is weighing you down and diminishing your overall happiness. If you still have to be involved with it, but you are apathetic toward it, that looks like drudgery to me. When I was a TBM, I often felt that way, bu...

Hahahaha! Nice play!!!!! I was starting to have the gift of prophecy on this over the past few years myself!!! lol I'm the villager I mentioned on the FB group. DW is there now. Surprising how far she has come this year. It's so messy with entangled families, community, etc... I would drop it all a...

Re: Reading the Book of Mormon in 90 days.
Early in my FC years ago I did a 90 day challenge with my daughters for YW. Listened to much on my commute and so much of it came across as ridiculous. Lots of the voice was Bruce Lindsay who was the KSL news guy my whole youth so it sounded like a news guy reading BS stories to me. Almost like an O...

Re: I Just Don't...Care
Ignorance (I dont know) and apathy (I dont care) have long been the blamed causes for disaffection. I personally find that it is knowing too much and caring too much. That comes first, then broken shelves and broken hearts. This proceeds the apathy. Pavlov termed this learned helplessness. (Look it ...

Welcome to NOM and the faith journey. It helped me through the early stages while all alone in my FC. The advise above is wise. Read it and follow. I could say more but those are all wise posters!

Re: New to NOM 2.0, DW’s shelf just broke
Welcome. You are lucky to be on the same page. My DW and I were not for years (most of which I just faked and played TBM) but she has recently started a FC at a pace faster than mine. I think she is lucky to have me ahead of her on the path so she hasn't had to be as cautious or secretive. May you f...
