My DW got a traffic ticket for not coming to a complete and total stop at a four way stop intersection. No safety concerns, no erratic driving. She simply did not do the law defined full stop. She was a victim of reality driving vs. strict obedience to the law, driving.
Strict obedience to the law, honesty is impossible. I have to live with reality honesty to stay sane.
To answer this question is a classic double bind. Answer yes, according to a high standard of honesty, and you are not being honest. So if you answer no, you may not get to see your child get married.
This is a silly question to ask us humans who cannot be expected to be 100% compliant at all times. It is like a parent asking a child if he took a cookie out of the cookie jar.
Perhaps this question is just a way of helping members do a self introspection of themselves and that the interviewers really don't want to hear anything else but yes.
Anyway, I haven't had to worry about this for sometime and guess what? I am still a good person with or without the church!

I don't think I have ever once varied in my answer to this one. I've always said, "I try to be." And that would still be my answer.

I would answer yes. But if I were to be asked this question today by a BP or SP I would have a hard time not commenting on what has already been said about honesty in regards to the church itself.

I wonder if Quentin Cook cringes when he's asked this question. Or do they just sign their own recommends?

That was always my answer, too, because, like mossy back pointed out, it is impossible to be 100% honest all the time. (For example, if someone, especially my child, comes to me all excited with news she has to tell, am I going to bluntly say, "I already know that?" Am I being dishonest if I act like I've never heard that before, and rejoice with her in her new knowledge?)

I like this answer. In addition some things are personal and not for everyone to know. Discretion is the better part of valor.Give It Time wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2017 5:13 am As much as safety will permit.
So, this could possibly be a matter of safety.
