-10 for numbers fudging, Cook. Your own stats report says it's LESS than 70,000 missionaries. It's the Marin county hospital fiasco all over again.

-5 for genealogy based threats

+100 for calling out abuse and "non-consentual immorality"

-50 for lumping "consentual immorality" in with it (seriously, you can't talk about rape and sex like they are two sides of the same coin)

Minimizing abuse is not cool, dude. It's NOT the same as "the evil of pornography." One the church denounces, the other it hides. Minus lots.

Just gotta say that "non-consensual immorality" is one of the weirder euphemisms I've heard.

Ok. I'll give him +5 for having a sense of humour while announcing the temples.

Deemphasize the numbers and emphasize the temples. One they have better control over.

Right?? Really bizarre, I did a double take when he said that. Like you're being coerced into being immoral? There's nothing immoral about being victimized!

-100 for being far, far behind all other mainstream churches. You know - the ones that have clothing closets, free medical clinics, food pantries, regular outreach work in the community? You know, the ones that do ALL of that without carding the recipients to see if they're members?
Very true. Instead of taking these points from sister Bingham I'm going to take them from RMNs total since he's the one behind this.
Fair enough - I was rating the program, not Bingham.

Of course he can't let a conference go by without a pilot talk!

(I've always found Pontius Pilate one of the more interesting minor characters in the NT...)
Actually, in mainstream Christianity, he is widely known (if not in detail). Most mainstream churches remember some form of the "Apostles' Creed" in their services. I still know the one we used by heart, and it reminded us of Jesus and his journey. It is recognized regularly, not just at Easter, and the phrase I learned says Jesus, "...suffered under Pontius Pilate,..."

Some churches have different wording than others, but the Creed is basically the same thing (wording is not as anally tracked in most churches), and it is an important component to Christianity and Christian history.

I'm pretty sure they mean the rapist is immoral, but yeah... the ambiguity is concerning. I hope this doesn't become the church's code word for rape. We should call it what it is and make it clear that it's an act of violence against a real person, not just something that merely makes the rapist impure.
