Tips for keeping faith in humanity
Seriously, any tips out there? Maybe it's the times, but I can really feel my faith in humanity slipping. It wasn't long ago that I could proudly proclaim the innate goodness of human beings, but add in a little fear or propaganda, and it turns out even the best of us can be turned rabid.
Either the world is losing its damned mind, or I am. Maybe it's both.

I just watched "Where to invade next" film by Micheal Moore. I highly recommned it. It might not restore faith in current conditions of the US, but shows secular Europe giving us some hope.

Total rewrite.
Oliver, people are doing the best they can with the information and abilities they have at the present moment.
It's awful that people just don't seem to have it in them to be decent to each other.
Serenity prayer this and follow the instructions in my next post

I am also quickly losing faith in humanity. Art of various forms uplifts me at what humans can accomplish. Of course, soon we won't have any art/humanities and everything will be STEM, but...

It could have something to do with age. All my life I remember old people telling telling me the world was going to pot. (this started approximately in the '60's) I couldn't see it, until I hit 50. Now that I hit sixty (and Trump got elected) it seems obvious. Especially when 2/3 of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer died.
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

Restore your faith in humanity by looking at the long term data trends. Things are better than they have ever been if you look at the major metrics.

I know what you mean. I need to remind myself that there are good people out there - it just depends on focus. When I look for it, I can often see people being nice to one another - chatting, smiling, helping when something falls, parents loving their children...
Turning Point is a good show, as is "Kindness Journey" or something - this English guy travels around the world asking others if he could stay with them and have a meal or 2. Afterwards, he (& the show sponsers) give back to them - often in a much bigger way.

I'm feeling it too. We must be of the same age range (62). I am especially saddened by the loss of Emerson and Lake who I saw about 7 times along with Palmer. And also Kurt Vonnegut, who was a very important part of my life.by deacon blues » Tue Mar 07, 2017 7:25 pm
