Conference Report and Analysis

Post by moksha » Sat Apr 01, 2017 7:39 am

Thought I would make a thread for this topic.

Now we will see if the leaked list of speakers is accurate. So far, Eyring is accurate. But have a member of the First Presidency open the conference is not a surprise.

Yes, too bad for the dog. But the leaked list of speakers continues to hold with this Clayton guy.

I think this Clayton guy wins the award for weeping.

You're actually watching?

You resign, but you know you can't turn away from the awards show!

Elder Renlund gave a pretty good talk on not judging others.

Renlund's talk was good - seems like a nice guy.

The guy talking now (not sure his name) seems so self-righteous and smug. This is the speaker two speakers after Renlund.

Edit: Mark Bragg - perfect name for him. His personality is so irritating - I'd like to smack him.

He failed to mention discrimination on sexual preference. There must have been a glitch in the teleprompter.

According to Nelson, it's a great idea to get kicked out of major academic competitions because you have to attend a Relief Society meeting. This was supposed to show how a young LDS woman would stand for the right, but it fell really flat for me.

Nelson would not have stopped in the middle of a heart surgery for a Church commitment.

I don't know yet, but damn do we have some contenders for Suck Up 70

I didn't catch all of it. I was on a field trip with DD's girl scout troop so I couldn't set the Eyring cry clock. Anyone get a time of when the tears started flowing? I caught the guy after him Poor dog!

So the 70s?

It's good of me to be here.'"

But he probably would have shamed anyone else for not doing so.

I have personal interests in this particular GC. I left the church, but I can't leave it alone.

I caught pieces of this one and I heard some really good bits about not being mean to others etc. But really it's just so hollow coming from the church especially after the November policy.

we had this (don't be prejudiced against others) in the European Broadcast a few weeks ago. I kind of thought it was a little wasted on us. A) I think we are a little more liberal (live and let live) and B) We are used to being a minority ourselves - as mormons we are relatively few in number in our countries - so again we are not likely to persecute others.

The only thing I can think we (European Mormons) are bigoted on is sexuality and that lies squarely at feet of the church, so I wasn't sure who we needed to stop giving a hard time? It was Elder Ballard who delivered the message, I enjoyed the rest of his talk though.
At the halfway home. I'm a full-grown man. But I'm not afraid to cry.

Love it. I'm having a good day not watching at all for probably the first time ever. I just do not care anymore...at all.

Did I miss something?

Don't they usually announce how many new wards and stakes have been created? Was there no such announcement today and does this mark the admission of a downward trend?
