I am a NOW Mormon

Post by NOWmormon » Thu Jul 06, 2017 7:14 am

There are so many monikers out there (ex, post, former, active, inactive, jack, nevermo, NOM, etc)

In an effort to consolidate all these labels into one inclusive, comprehensive term, a "NOW Mormon" encompasses EVERYONE past/present/future who has had negative experiences regarding the church.

NOW Mormon = Neglected Or Wounded Mormon.

I am NOW Mormon.

I saw your post on reddit and you have been posting about this for some time. What has been the reception to your site? Have you had any friends or family react to it?

Question: If there are already too many "mormon" labels, why do we need another one?

Why the need for others to embrace another, new label?

Come to think of it, this also applies to the origin story of Mormonism.

I am a NOM, and you are a NOW Mormon. That's cool-it's just the M turned upside down. Which makes me think of the Wumbo episode from Spongebob.

I'm a 94% apathetic mormon. It just doesn't do anything for me anymore and I'm really shooting for 100%.

I get the Wounded reference but that makes me think healing must occur at some point.

So where do you see yourself as a NOW mormon in 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. Is NOW Mormonism just another attempt at Progressive Mormonism?

Personally, I do not think of myself an neglected or wounded. I feel that that is (for me) self-victimizing, which is the opposite of what I need to be able to progress to a positive stage of life. NOM and the posts here are helping me to move in the right direction but I would not feel a desire to affiliate myself with NOW.

Sorry to hear you are neglected or wounded. Neither of those conditions can be very pleasant. Close your eyes and pretend you have been awakened as a NOM. Let the waves of peace and tranquility pour over you as you anoint yourself priest or priestess of a message board with full authority to perform the sacred sacrament of posting. Oh, peace train, holy roller, everyone jumps on the NOM Train.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
