Lunch With Fellow NOMies

Post by achilles » Tue Oct 16, 2018 6:33 pm

Hey folks! I recently had lunch with Hagoth, and had a great experience! It really helps to meet fellow NOMies IRL. I live near Odgen and would love to meet more of you. Let's reach out to each other more!

I'm in the far south eastern corner of unincorporated Weber County. I work in SLC most days, but do work from home 1-2 days per week, usually Wednesdays and Fridays. I try to do lunch with a couple of my ExMo/Nom friends at least once a month; last week we hit Roosters in Layton, last month it was at Slackwater in Ogden. I'll let you know the next time we head out for a beer and food, maybe next week.

I live in Sandy, I occasionally visit Hermie's Sunday Morning gathering, it has been very enjoyable. I would be willing to travel to the Ogden area if there is convenient time to meet. I sure appreciate Achilles, and all you do, comments etc. You too, Ruben. It would be good to meet you in person.

I’m warming up to the idea of meeting some NOMies and giving up a little annonimity.
A lunch downtown SLC might be nice. Some easy, comfortable location like the Lionhouse Pantry or the Garden Restaurant at Joseph Smith Memorial. Perhaps another location will work also.

I’d do lunch in downtown SLC, my only problem is that I don’t get on here very often, but I’ll try and check and see if anything gets organized.

Those establishments are a bit on the COBy side, but I'm up for anything. My lunch comfort zone is typically a beer and pub food at Twist or awesome tacos and a Margarita at Taqueria 27. The best local brewery casual hang outs are Fisher and Avenues Proper. Booze does not have to be on the menu but it can be a more enjoyable outing if it is. Other awesome and a bit more adventurous SLC dinning: Shawarma from Curry Fried Chicken on State, Tosh's has the best Ramen, excellent Asian/sushi at Sapa, beer and Cajun at the Bayou, excellent East India buffet at Saffron Valley, great Italian food at Stone Ground, just to name a few.

A few months back we did a NOM lunch at Taqueria 27, good time!

I'm always up for meeting folks if it suits my schedule. Taqueria 27 was a good location. I've been to meetups at Lucky 13 too. We used to do a regular thing at the Gateway foodcourt but it is now a Dave and Busters. I guess we could still meet at Dave and Busters.

ETA: lunch with Achilles was awesome. I highly recommend it.

I hope you know I was kidding about the Temple square eateries. The taqueria sounds good. I’ve never been, but maybe will stop by soon and try it out

How 'bout Taqueria 27 up on Foothill Drive?

It's still fairly close to downtown, and those of us who don't work downtown don't have to drive in circles for an hour looking for parking...

(Can you tell I don't like dealing with parking downtown? :geek: )

Also: Ya'll still need to visit Unita Brewing for some pub food some time. (And mild barley drinks, if you're in to that...)

LOL! I did not want to assume! I know there's still folks here in transition.

Since I drive into SLC, I can make the Foothill location work. I'm two blocks from work to T27 in downtown, so I don't have to deal with parking. Let's shoot for the middle of the month when No Tof is in town. It will need to be a Wednesday for me next month. I've got two trips to Zion Canyon and one to San Diego, but they are all Friday through Monday trips.

Works for me. I'm at the University on Wednesdays and I usually take the bus, but I will make sure to drive that day.

Looks like the next NOMie Lunch is Wednesday November 14th at:

Taqueria27
1615 S Foothill Drive
(lower level in Lamplighter Square)
SLC UT 84108

11:30 (or maybe even 11:00) to beat the lunch rush? (Or propose a desired time.)

Who's wearing the Santa Hat for NOMie Identification? :ugeek:

I've penciled this in my Franklin Planner!

Hagoth - I could pick you up on my way over; I'll be driving up 400S to Foothill. Let me know if driving in that morning doesn't work out.
