Oh Boy, I Get to GO BACK!!

Post by hmb » Sat Nov 24, 2018 8:38 am

I have not been to church since 2011. I am temporarily living with my dad and get to play pretend mormon. Yesterday, I bought a skirt and dress so I can go to church. Yippie. I hope those PH boys are washing their hands so I can eat broken bread unworthily, but without the bacteria/cooties that come from an adolescence' hands (nose picking, little factory operations...you get the idea). Yay for cell phones (and my own transportation). I'll do sac meeting, but that's it. The bad: I have to go to church. The good: This does not involve spouse/children. That would be so much worse. Reading through some of your issues makes me appreciate how my situation is inconvenient, not marriage threatening nor life consuming. Another plus, I'll be more active here.

Yes, hooray for cell phones. If your family doesn’t shame you for using them, they make the experience so much better. It’s how I survive EQ.

Ewwwwe. Never thought about the hands that break the bread. It’s just gross.

Good luck. I find that going to church occasionally like I do can be entertaining if I don’t get emotionally involved. Looking for interesting quirks or humorous anecdotes makes the hour fly by.

Maybe fake the sacrament bread eating.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there.

Good luck in your predicament. I can at least confirm that my ward has a large bottle of hand sanitizer under the sacrament table and the Priests consistently use it each week just before the sacrament hymn. I doubt this is necessarily common in wards, but you could take a look under the sacrament table. They need something under there for basic cleanliness and I would happily pick up a bottle for them and just leave it so the Priests could have it available.

I don't have a huge experience with lots of wards, by every ward I have been in and I have helped out with the sacrament, they have had the hand sanitizer and I typically see it being used. I would guess that more than likely, at least in the developed world, they are pretty common, if not standard setups.

How well, they are used? That's a gamble.

When the alcohol based hand sanitizer came out to the consumer market the the mid '90 I was in Utah and our bishop was the state Epidemiologist (communicable disease specialist) He got one of those setup for the ward building and gave the youth a lecture on using it and was quite strict to make sure that it was used.

He was the only bishop I knew that would give lessons on public heath in SM. Remember the Hantavirus scare in the late 90's? I still remember this SM talk on that.

I just stopped taking sacrament, I figure I don’t believe it anyway, and I frankly don’t care what people think. Technically I drink coffee and alcohol so from the TBM’s perspective I’m making the right call, but for me it’s more a form of rebellion, the same reason I stopped wearing garments and such.
