An update from Holland - the country

Post by Meilingkie » Thu Aug 08, 2019 4:38 am

Hello all,

It’s been a while.
Lots of things have changed.

First of all I suddenly find myself having a new place of my own.
Signed the lease on a new condo just 2 weeks ago.

Secondly: My DD is moving in with me, she’s had enough of her mother.
“I’m the adult one dad, mom is acting like a young teenager, drinking partying and the like”.
She’s starting to go to college at Tilburg, though she could simply choose to do so at Rotterdam near her mother, but she’s simply fed-up.

Thirdly: My DS is moving in with his Finnish girlfriend.
So he’ll be living 995 miles away in Finland.

Conclusion: Mom blew up the family, and 16 months later she’s all alone.
Her BF of 3 years dumped her last Easter.
She also left the Church and she kicked her siblings and parents to the curb last summer too.
In a way I pity her, her “great-reboot” as she called it seems to have backfired spectacularly.
J. called it Karma.

Fourth: I had a very nice couple of days late July with the lady I think I could say is for keeps, J.
We spent 3 days at a resort nearby, she came over from Korea.
I had planned for 2 days, but OK she pleaded and begged me to stay. Furnishing the house could wait, and so it did.
She’s American, LDS, BIC, RM, BYU-I, considers herself NOM.
And almost all of her siblings, her dad, stepmom etc. were there, they all flew in for a week or so.
One sibling lives 1 mile from my office, and we got to know each other through her.

And lastly: J. has stated her intention to stay in Holland indefinitely.
Because she feels ill at ease in the USA, because 8 years in Korea has been plenty.
Because she wants to fade out of Church.
Because her big sister lives here, and because of me.

Yes, it means I’m back in the thick of Mormonism, but on my own terms.

I’m happy as a clam.

Anyone else the title of this and think "Is Jeffery R. in the hospital?"

This was much more interesting than I expected with the first reading of the title. Glad to hear things are looking up.

OK, but if you do run into Jeff Holland in Holland, be sure to let us know if he there pulling taffy or just following the wrong road again.

It's great to hear from you Meilingkie! Sounds like things are settling to a new, good normal. That's fantastic. Enjoy your time with J!

Mel your life sounds like one giant soap opera.

I remember awhile back there was a poster on the old Postmormon forum that had a similar experience with his wife leaving the church then finding a young stud of a boyfriend. She left everyone and everything for this kid who then ultimately left her. She was left with nothing but the mini skirt and high heels she was wearing when she went crawling back to him.

He told her to bug off and found a new relationship of his own.

Glad to hear you’re getting settled in.

Grandpa of 48.
The director-general of IT at the Dutch Prisonservice.
Drove a BMW M5, nice villa.

In other words, he could find, attract, and retain yet another significant other with relative ease. Alas for her, and good luck to you.

Anything new going on with the church in Holland? Or are you even aware of how things are going there anymore?

Congratulations on the new girlfriend, Meilingkie! Hopefully, she brought recipes for many of those wonderful Korean dishes with her. Best wishes.

About the Church, not much in the loop.
More units still closing, and the loss in active membership as a result is abt 40% compared with 2015

Congratulations on your new place ! That's great news that J. will stay in Holland indefinitely. I wish both of you much happiness and lots of fun. You are deserving of happiness after all the stress that you went through these past couple of years. Thanks for posting, and please continue to keep us updated! -- Wndr.
