Well before I got out of bed this morning I was caught by my wife posting on this board. She got upset then I got upset and guess what I came out as an Apostate Again !!! (Some of you know I left the church once before) It all came out that she pressured me into returning I dont believe, it's all made up etc etc etc . Then she didnt say anything for a while then it all came out in one huge downpour and at the end I was told Hell is for members who become apostates!!!!!!! Ouch !!! I took it with a grain of salt. I feel better coming out and kissed her and told her I would wait for her shelf to break !!!! .

Here's my thing. Sis M has said the same thing, and so I say, that's interesting. Which prophet has told me I'm going to hell because I don't believe? Where does it say that if I don't believe every word coming out of the mouths of old dudes, I'm consigned to a burning afterlife?

And then wait. If your wife is a typical Mormon, she doesn't even know the doctrine (even though I'm sure someone like Brigham would consign apostate to hell to all eternity, after spilling their blood on the ground first) and then just say, yep, nowhere.

And then move on with your lives together. Been playing this game for years now, it does get better!

People say things they regret when emotions are high.

Just think how strong she's going to be when she finally finds out the truth about the church. She'll be telling you how corrupt it is.

Being a really good husband after I told my wife about my feelings made all the difference for her. She could see that if anything, I was an even better husband after leaving the church. That's a great way of proving that one does NOT need the church to be "worthy".

If necessary, remind her of 1Cor. 7:13

You worm your way out of the conversation because, let's be honest, the guy has nothing interesting to say whatsoever, and next thing you know you are cornered by Dallin H. Oaks and he starts reciting his last general conferenct talk before he died (which of course was on the evils of the homosexual agenda).

But on a serious note, good luck on improving your relationship with your wife. I don't have any good advice other than it is okay to stand up for your basic rights to normal boundaries and dignity.

There is no need to worry about Hell. Mormons put themselves into a few narrow beliefs on the details of the post mortal world. The ongoing impolite questions about post-mortal polygamy definitely fall into this awkward realm. Mormons spend all day proclaiming the importance of eternal families without noticing that the rest of the Christian world already assumed family reunification from the beginning.

The details surrounding Hell are murkier and even less developed, yet speculation around the Telestial Kingdom is a ripe field for harvesting all sorts of confounding ideas. To start, Mormons thoroughly don't believe in the classic Dante's Inferno of eternal (and often ironic) torture. That's good, but no other speculation is really provided so anything you say about the Telestial Kingdom cannot actually be refuted.

So yes go ahead and accept that condemnation to Hell. You will be in good company with far too many of the funnest mortals who have lived on earth. Where do you think all of the great stars of classic Rock 'n Roll will end up? It will be the eternal Telestial-Palooza Woodstock concert! Do you really think that Jimmy Hendrix will be playing a gig up in the big CK for Super VIP Heaven? David Bowie and Prince and Janis Joplin and Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison and a hundred other stars are probably having a jam session right now and won't be taking their act to the nicer part of town.

All you get to listen to in the Celestial kingdom is the Tabernacle Choir of the Eternal Square. I hope you really enjoy slow moving, four part religious harmonies. It is literally what Elder Boyd K. Packer would insist upon.

But it fits all of the ridiculous rules laid out in D&C 76, 88, and 131 with as much consistency as the ridiculous rules laid out in D&C 132 defending plural marriage. Tyrell Givens once noted that it was the particularity of detail on the LDS description of the afterlife that tended to annoy mainstream Christians. That particularity bites them from the apostate direction also. Let's turn the eternal frown upside-down and smile your Hell away!
