Mormon things that just pop into your head

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Mormon things that just pop into your head

Post by 2bizE » Mon May 04, 2020 7:59 pm

This just popped into my head tonight...out of the blue....
“Como la mayoria de las personas, nosotros creemos en Dios. Sabemos que el vive, y queremos compartir con usted lo que sentimos por el.”

This was like 35 years ago I did the mission. This was the first paragraph of the first discussion in Spanish.

I have one of those too. Every six months or so it bubbles up to the surface. It's from the Christ in America film strip: "He aqui, you soy Jesucristo, quien los profetas testificaron vendria al mundo, y he aqui, yo soy la luz y vida del mundo, y he bedido de la amarga copa que El Padre me ha dado..." etc.
“The easy confidence with which I know another man's religion is folly teaches me to suspect that my own is also.” -Mark Twain

Jesus: "The Kingdom of God is within you." The Buddha: "Be your own light."

Tell me about it. After late night dancing at the Bay, we came home with memories of "Para bailar la bamba se necesita una poca de gracia, Una poca de gracia pa' mi pa' ti ah y arriba y arriba, Ah y arriba y arriba por ti seré, por ti seré, por ti seré".
It could only be banished by dreams of the Lady in Red.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

A few months ago, I had in my head, "He aqui, una obra maravillosa esta para aparecer entre los hijos de los hombres. Por tanto, . . . ." (D&C Section 4 minus proper accents). I went to check how much I could still recite after 30 years. I found out the church changed the Spanish wording of this section. I felt like another part of my Mormon identity had been lost.

Totally. Argentina 94-96.

And the "vi una columna de Luz, mas brillante que el sol . . . . Escucha lo."

And way too many songs. I randomly find myself humming, whistling, singing, or hearing in my own head. Spanish hymns, English hymns, primary songs. And even the Mormon Rap haha.

You can take the boy out of the church, but you cant take the church out of the boy.

For me it's always lines out of the old temple films, especially Micheal Ballam.
Well, we shall see!
They shall be...in my power!
We will go down.
It is delicious to the taste and very desirable!
One day I'd kind of pissed off DW. I went to get something out of the garage and when I went to go back in the house the door was locked. I knocked, she opened the door slightly and said "What is wanted?" I laughed and said "Adam, having been an asshole, wishes now to enter and offer an apology." We have a lot of fun with it sometimes, especially when we are high and eating really good fruit!
“Sir,' I said to the universe, 'I exist.' 'That,' said the universe, 'creates no sense of obligation in me whatsoever.”

Great.

Now I'm gonna have Spanish "scriptures' running through my head for the next weeks (or months.)

Bad church film lines have been coming to me lately:

"Mahanna you ugly!"

"Stonecutter" "Same as the next man?" "Much better Sir!"

"Papanwa!"

"You must do what truth requires!"

Various lines from the Missionary Guide tapes. For example,
  • "Elders, yes we will!"
  • "You know, party parties. Sometimes we'd party all night."
  • "Where was your loving God when some of my best friends died?" (And the missionary's response.)
  • (The way that one guy said "physical death.")
  • etc.
I wonder if anyone has ever ripped those tapes and uploaded them somewhere.

It's usually a song for me. Years and years of auditory indoctrination.

Whenever I meet someone named James, I want to sing, "Jimmy, oh Jimmy, don't listen to them. . . . "
