I saw this posted I think by Consig on the discussmormonism board and thought it was worth a thread here.

It's a sort of mini presentation about the church's finances and I think it's both well done and easily digestible which are two things that are needed with these kinds of issues.

If it is any indication, my son and DIL are the only of my kids who are still active, and he has been in the bishopric and she has been PP and RSP, so goo active couple. Our son told us the other day that they no longer pay tithing, but donate to charities that don’t just spend money on overhead and then plop the rest in a bank account to save for obscene wealth. So, even active people don’t think the church needs the money and are putting it elsewhere.

Thanks for posting up that link. I'd love to get my MIL to stop paying tiths on her retirement income that was already tithed when it was earned! The widows mite should stay in her pocket and not Rusty's huge golden vault!

Sharing another interesting facet to this thread, rather than start another one:

This article talks about the billionaires now taking rides to space, specifically J. Amazon, how it does not seem to amount to anything other than joy rides and dick measures. It does not seem to accomplish anything to benefit humanity, but looks to use significant resources of the many to benefit a few. There may be some science and innovation, but that will likely remain in the advantages of that corporation, used to make more $$. I guess history will be the judge on this one.

Most of the few sentient beings that have had the very rare opportunity to see the Earth from space, they have a profound epiphany. They see how small and delicate our rock is and how ridiculous and scary the prevailing world view is for most of it's inhabitants.

I don't see the TSCC sending Rusty to space anytime soon with their billions, but this article did strike some similarities for me with the Widows Mite info. The COB top brass view of the world, from their exclusive ivory tower in SLC, seem to have similar world views. They want to show how pious, noble and righteous they are, helping the world; when in fact they are keeping the majority of their filthy lucre for themselves. If Jesus was and is all they say he is, I would not want to be in their ivory tower on his supposed dreadful day of return.
