AI rapping should be the new missionary

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

AI rapping should be the new missionary

Post by Hagoth » Mon Jan 02, 2023 10:29 am

AI Chat is getting so good it will probably replace humans social media Mormon missionaries. At least they could make it entertaining.

My son gave these prompts to the OpenAI GPT chatbot:

That Word of Wisdom had me laughing out loud... my kid asked why I was laughing and I had to make something up.

These are great- I already shared the WoW with some people because it's so goofy and yet awesome at all once!

I really think AI is what the church has been looking for. I asked it to write a short LDS testimony:
I bear witness that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. I know that he lived a perfect life, suffered for our sins, and was resurrected, providing the opportunity for all of us to repent and return to live with our Heavenly Father. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's true church on the earth, and that through its teachings and ordinances, we can receive the fullness of His gospel and find joy and purpose in this life. I testify that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that through reading and studying it, we can come closer to Christ and receive personal revelation. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Then I told it to do it in the style of Dr. Seuss:
I bear my testimony with a hop, skip, and a jump,
That Jesus is my Lord, my guide, my trump.
I know that he suffered for our sins and pain,
And through his resurrection, we can be whole again.

The Church of Jesus Christ, it is true,
A place of love, light, and all that is good and new.
The Book of Mormon, another testament of Christ,
Brings us closer to God and helps us overcome life's strife.

So if you want joy, purpose, and peace,
Come follow Christ and never cease.
I say these things with a heart full of love,
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord above. Amen.
And then I asked it to give me a short patriarchal blessing:
Dear [insert recipient's name],

As you receive this patriarchal blessing, know that you are a beloved child of God, with a divine nature and purpose. The Lord knows you personally and loves you deeply.

You have been given special gifts and talents that will help you fulfill your divine potential. Seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit and use these gifts to serve others and bring glory to God. Remember that your worth is not based on the world's standards, but on your divine heritage as a son or daughter of God.

As you strive to follow the commandments and keep the covenants you have made, the Lord will bless you with an abundance of spiritual and temporal blessings. He will guide you along the path that will lead you to the greatest happiness and fulfillment. Trust in the Lord and follow His will for your life.

I leave you with a special blessing in the name of Jesus Christ. May you be blessed with wisdom, understanding, and direction as you navigate through life's challenges. May you be a light to those around you and a beacon of hope and faith. May you have the strength and courage to overcome any obstacle and find joy and peace in the Lord.

I say these things by the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood, given to me as a patriarch in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Amen.
If only it could pay tithing!

Those are both very pretty. Is there a connection to the topic of AI that I'm missing?

Not really. I liked what you wrote and wanted to add something a bit more expansive besides "Bump".

BTW, how would that sound in the style of Mickey Spillane?

Ooh ooh ooh!!!

Can you ask it to spit some garment rhymes?

Maybe in the style of Margaret Thatcher?

Asking for a friend… 😂

That would be awesome, and I tried your suggestion, but for some reason the bot refused to do it, saying that it would be inappropriate. It is very touchy about what it will talk about.

Margaret Thatcher yielded fairly boring results. I was much happier with

Edgar Allen Poe:

Symbols on temple garments, a tale
Of mystery, death, and ghostly wail
A private pact with powers unseen
To follow God, a life serene

But beware, these symbols hold a curse
For those who stray and worse
A warning to the faithless soul
To repent and be made whole

So let us wear our garments with fear
And honor the promises made clear
For the power of these symbols, dark
Can doom us to an endless ark.

And Big Bird:

Temple garments, oh so neat
We wear them when we pray and eat
These special clothes are just for us
A private way to show we trust

These symbols on our garments, see
Are just for us, you and me
A reminder of the vows we've made
To follow Jesus, never stray

So let's be proud to wear these clothes
That help us feel so close
To God and His great love for us
And always do our best, a plus!

But it still refused to do it in the voice of Mickey Spillane or a gangsta rapper.

Maybe try Elmer Fudd or Donald Trump?

It refuses to do Trump, and it obviously doesn't get the Fudd vibe.

It really picked up the nuance of the patriarchal blessing.

Can it write a patriarchal blessing in John Larsen style? Or infants on thrones?

Or better yet, can it write an infants on thrones episode in the style of Ezra Taft Benson?

Now I wonder how well it could write a GC talk in some of the old school apostles style? Pre 1950?

Edited to add: can it do a comparison of BOM with the late war etc to see what other similar items may have existed that human comparison didn’t pick up?
