Book burning activists :(

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Book burning activists :(

Post by Angel » Sun Apr 30, 2023 5:44 am

"There is absolutely nothing wrong with a parent deciding a certain book is not for their child.

There is a colossal problem with a parent deciding that, therefore, no child should be allowed to read that book,” Jodi Picoult *author of now banned books)

So... this is an example of the conversation going on at our local school....

"*** has no children in *** ISD. She is going after books, schools, librarians, and after parents who disagree with what she has to say. She refuses to have healthy discussion on the matter and instead makes inflammatory posts that include incredibly skewed and misleading information, including but not limited to graphic imagery of pages in books that aren't even in our schools libraries. Her quest isn't to remove sexually explicit material, even though that's what she says. Her goal is to remove works written by and supportive of minorities and LGBTQIA+ people. Please be cautious when speaking to her and do not fall for her honeyed words. She is a detriment to our school district - one that she is not even a part of.

Her group, Mass Resistance, is a hate group.
Just so everyone knows the source of this bullshit."

Wondering if this is now a thing across the country? Burning books, banning "drag" shows (like - James and the giant peach play - that had actor playing two parts with two different genders) ... anyone else with kids in public school? Some scary grpups afoot.

There is one particular book that should be scrutinized very closely, if we are concerned about lewd content. Considering the adoration this book receives, anything that has comparable content should also be praiseworthy. For instance:
Ezekiel 23:20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.

Jesus: "The Kingdom of God is within you." The Buddha: "Be your own light."

I agree, Hagoth, and I'm sure you are aware that same book also discusses, describes, and promotes incest.

This very book is being distributed quite liberally but very sneakily into hotel rooms. The other day, I stayed in a hotel (which I will not name so as to not promote the brand), and as I prepared for bed and opened the night stand drawer to deposit my keys and wallet, what did I see staring into my face? You guessed it. That book!

It's obviously a tool of the devil, to tempt weary travelers far away from their homes into nefarious activities and sin.

There have been efforts to remove portions of that book, and replace the edited versions into hotel rooms. These versions have a green cover, which may represent the apron of fig leaves Adam and Eve fashioned to cover their nakedness, though ironically, the story of Adam and Eve was cut in this edited version.

It has been posited that the unedited book is part of the reason so much sexual sin occurs in hotel rooms. The next time you're in a hotel room, see if that book opens easily to Ezekiel 23. It's pure porn, right there for anyone to read.

I do not live in Utah, but here is the Utah list

https://www.saltlakemagazine.com/banned-books-utah/

One if the banned authors talking about books being a means to empower kids who are abused at home

https://www.msnbc.com/ali-velshi/watch/ ... 7140677770

A relative works in library. Their books get taken, stolen. They have to protect who is checking out what books - who is checking out books on addiction, on preparing for divorce, on support for abuse.

James and the Giant Peach is NOT a drag show.

The banned books are saving grace to kids experiencing abuse at home, to know what abuse is, to be empowered to stop abuse, to read examples of other kids who have escaped.

I am first hand witness of "purity" culture shushing abused kids - don't read about it, don't talk about it = continued abuse.

I'm sorry for poking fun at the Bible (well, barely sorry).

I had no idea this was back again. I find it interesting that some people so quick to defend the constitution can also be hell bent on forgetting about it when it doesn't suit them.

Based on what I remember from my librarian mother, school libraries cannot have sexually explicit books or excessively vulgar books. Parents can always ask that their child not be allowed to check out certain books. Don't try to dictate what MY kid reads.

Good grief, in this day and age if you can get a kid to read ANY book I'd consider it a good thing. People don't read books like they used to.

Remember back in Berlin in the 1930s when MAGA Mormons had huge bonfires of books?
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I'm a public school teacher, not in Utah. My state is trying to hop on the Florida/Texas bandwagon.

The bad news is, we have a Republican supermajority so it's all going to go through. The good news is, the ACLU watches these laws being written and they are SALIVATING.
