Bible banned from schools in Davis County, Utah

Post by 2bizE » Thu Jun 01, 2023 9:36 pm

There has been a lot of hate lately in society, especially around books. People have been uptight about having any books in their school library that has “pornography” , LGBTQ stuff, etc.
A complaint about these types of books led to a new policy in Utah banning anything as Pornographic or indecent.
Well, another person complained about the Bible stating it contains “Incest, onanism, bestiality, prostitution, genital mutilation, fellatio, dildos, rape, and even infanticide,” the parent wrote in their request, listing topics they found concerning in the religious text. “You’ll no doubt find that the Bible, under Utah Code Ann. § 76-10-1227, has ‘no serious values for minors’ because it’s pornographic by our new definition.”
And so school officials, yes in Utah, have agreed and it is now banned.
I bet the original opposers for LGBTQ stuff didn’t see that coming…anyway, the Book of Mormon is still on the shelves.
What parts of the BoM may be considered Pornographic or indecent to take it off the shelves?
Ammon chopping of arms seems pretty indecent….
What say ye?

Rape, torture, and Cannibalism in the BOM is pretty sick. (Moro. 9.)
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

The funniest part to me is that people don't see this coming when making these rules on removing books they deem inappropriate.

Allan Mount does TikTok videos going over Bible stories (at least he used to - I assume he still does) and when you listen to them they're absolutely horrific in every way - just as crazy as the stuff everyone is looking to ban from schools right now.

The Book of Mormon's treatment of sex is one of the best tell-tales that it is a 19th century creation.

The Bible has a weird and varied collection of sex-related stories and ideas that are obviously ancient in origin. Ancient writings tend to be very frank about this kind of stuff to the point of perplexing and embarrassing modern readers.

The BoM, on the other hand, takes exactly the Victorian kind of approach you would expect in the 19th century. All of the sex in the BoM (way to little of it for an ancient book) is either about wicked men "depriving them of that which was most dear and precious above all things, which is chastity and virtue," or seductresses leading righteous men away from heavenly causes, to the delight of the Prince of Darkness.

On the other hand, the BoM has the adventure tale kinds of violence you would expect for its time: valiant men hacking each others' heads off for righteous causes, noble armies fighting tirelessly to vanquish every drop of evil.

Personally, I think that banning books is a childish, selfish ego driven act. Hell, if you don't want to read the Bible, don't read it. Who gives a s**t? No one. If you do, it's not going to make you an ax murderer. I'd bet that of the people wanting to ban the Bible, that there's not more than 5% who have ever read it cover to cover, and fewer still who have read it more than that.

Lots of things in the Bible that kids should know just to communicate with the rest of the Christian world.

I'm glad that there are people out there who read and study The Bible and live by the teachings in it, the first being do as you would be done by.

I agree. Banning books leads the country in the wrong direction. It is fascism. I think these scripture bans is a statement of trying to show people how dumb the idea is of banning books…
