Was tithing required to attend the temple

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Didn't Jesus have a few choice actions for the money changers at the temple? Don't know about tithing per say, but it was defiantly pay-to-play back then as well.

Have you read The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by Saramago?

I highly recommend it. It is brilliant. It puts a whole new twist into WWJD.

Wow. Learned something new today.
The Shepherd instructs Jesus in the ways of hedonism, and at one point tries to persuade Jesus to use the sheep for sexual release.

It is epic. I was given a copy by someone here at NOM. Worth the read.

Matthew 23:23-24

23-24 “You’re hopeless, you religion scholars and Pharisees! Frauds! You keep meticulous account books, tithing on every nickel and dime you get, but on the meat of God’s Law, things like fairness and compassion and commitment—the absolute basics!—you carelessly take it or leave it. Careful bookkeeping is commendable, but the basics are required. Do you have any idea how silly you look, writing a life story that’s wrong from start to finish, nitpicking over commas and semicolons?
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
