NOMference Spring 2024 Saturday Morning!!!!!

This is for encouragement, ideas, and support for people going through a faith transition no matter where you hope to end up. This is also the place to laugh, cry, and love together.

Did I miss any announcement about the 2023 membership statistics? I know they don't read those over the pulpit because there's no time to waste during conference ( ) but I didn't hear anyone directing people to a website.

The membership statistics are the most interesting thing about the whole of April general conferences.
IIRC they publish them on the website like an hour or so after they do the audit/etc at GenCon.

Could be wrong, but I think there's always a bit of a delay before the more detailed numbers go up.

You can tell his energy level is very low....

His voice even sounds tired.

I only half heard it, but it was disappointing to hear something along the lines of being able to be with his wife in the next life, "if I prove myself worthy."

It's a sad way to live and that belief can be toxic. Lots of members (and Christians in general) carry tonnes of anxiety over their status before god.

What loving god would block two people that love each other from being together? That's like a minimal thing someone could do for someone else. Just let people that love each other alone so they can be together. What god would prevent that? Regardless of a person's "worthiness."

The if worthy then blessings mindset is toxic to the soul.

I thought they usually had someone, possibly the person conducting the meeting, mention that the stats will be posted on the website. I could be misremembering that bit.

I'm not sure "smiling while you child is struggling" is really the message we should be going for right now... -5

Looks like a decent number of converts

It was bad. And I only heard it when I watched the Mormon stories about the drama around what she said. But just those few minutes were sooo cringe....

I like how she's talking about Hebrew words. I always think that is interesting. Also, she's speaking about why she wears her garments. I mean I was expecting her to be more preachy and condescending, but this isn't as bad as it could be, I guess.

The talks that obsess over making testimonies stronger just don't do it for me. Testimony of what? How strong is strong enough? What does a strong testimony even mean?

He also talked about being worthy to continue to see more rays of light. It feels scrupulosity inducing. In Mormonism enough is never enough. Things have always got to be stronger than they are. It crowds out the happiness that can be enjoyed with what one already has.
