Total Facepalm Moment

Post by document » Thu Apr 20, 2017 8:01 am

In the break room at work this morning I was waiting for the ice machine. My coworker and I were chatting and I said, "Oh, I did a funeral at that Mormon church on X street" to which TBM behind us at the vending machine butted in and said, "We're actually called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, not the Mormon church".

Insert eye roll.

Fine. It's now my turn for the ice machine, the coworker says, "You do funerals for churches other than the Episcopalians?"

Snarky me said, "Actually, we're called The Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, not the Episcopalians".

The TBM butts in again and says, "Well that's a mouthful"

Insert eye roll.

I just left it as is. My coworker just busted out laughing.

What made it funnier than ever is that the TBM said, "What?"

That's hilarious.

Outside = Mormon = Mormon.org
Inside = LDS = LDS.org

The church continues to propagate this divide by dressing up the mannequins in the window. It's just another example of the church speaking out of both sides of its mouth.

It's quite silly how tone deaf Mormons sound when pressing this point. It causes every news story about the LDS church to include a sentence or two with an explanation. And it largely feels like trademark protection against the FLDS denominations that the Mormons simply can't get over like a love sick suitor secretly pining after a lost romance. The FLDS still have the plural marriage doctrine that faithful LDS outwardly claim they don't want but are secretly jealous since their first seven prophets enjoyed those relationships.

Actually, you spoke those exact words, you were talking about a Mormon church, not the Mormon Church.
Mormon being used as an adjective instead of part of a "misnomer", a more accurate response would have been :
"It's actually a Jesusy Christian Latterish-diurnal Saintsy church, not a Mormon church".

Outside = Mormon = Mormon.org
Inside = LDS = LDS.org
Or else, Inside = LDS = LDS, Inc.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
