New RFM Podcast on Temple Changes

Post by consiglieri » Fri Jan 11, 2019 12:11 pm

Bill Reel and I just released today our discussion and dissection of the new changes to the temple endowment, putting them in context with some of the changes that have been made in the past, up to and including the oath of vengeance.

While applauding the new changes, the way changes are made behind the scenes while prophets publicly proclaim the ordinances are not subject to change comes under scrutiny.

And comparing such statements by past prophets relating to ordinance immutability to the new statement by the First Presidency that "prophets have taught that there will be no end to such adjustments" is similarly examined.

Here is a link.

I hope you enjoy it!

Just listened to this and thought it was very informative and correct.

To Consiglieri:

A few notes on the temple change statement that you guys reviewed:

"Whenever the Lord has had a people on the earth who will obey His word, they have been commanded to build temples. Scriptures document patterns of temple worship from the times of Adam and Eve, Moses, Solomon, Nephi, and others.

This has been wordsmithed to be ambiguous enough that either position can be supported depending on the desire of the individual. If you want to believe Adam had the present endowment you can. If you want to believe he did something else that was approved, you can.

"With the restoration of the gospel in these latter days, temple worship has also been restored to bless the lives of people across the world and on the other side of the veil as well.

Again, ambiguously written so one can believe "temple worship" in general has been restored or that the specific ordinances which we perform today have been restored. You can read this any way you want and be right.

Over these many centuries, details associated with temple work have been adjusted periodically, including language, methods of construction, communication, and record-keeping. Prophets have taught that there will be no end to such adjustments as directed by the Lord to His servants.

"Communication" probably refers to the technology being used to transmit the message. Film as opposed to stage actors.

A dedicated temple is the most holy of any place of worship on the earth. Its ordinances are sacred and are not discussed outside a holy temple.”

Clumsy attempt to stop minds from critical thinking....

Just my two cents worth. ;)

I am enjoying it a lot. Tell Bill that Reed Smoot was an apostle at the time of the Smoot hearings. He can absolutely use him as an authority.
