The Root of All Evil

Post by moksha » Sat Feb 02, 2019 8:34 pm

Trying to come up with a definitive root of all evil:

Greed
Lust for Power
Meanness
Harsh Gospel
High Carbohydrate Foods

Greed - The modern application of the Ayn Randian theory. Pretty much the antithesis of Christianity.
Lust for Power - Machiavelli touched on this subject. People desire power, but power corrupts.
Meanness - An extra bad quality in mean girls, bullies, politicians, soldiers, and church officials.
Harsh Gospel - This is an especially troublesome root. Taking something that advocates love and transforming it into something hateful and self-justifying.
High Carbohydrate Foods - Sugar-laden fast foods. Black licorice for sure, but the others are suspect too. Chocolate is exempt.

Your thoughts?
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I think it's people taking themselves too seriously.

Jesus: "The Kingdom of God is within you." The Buddha: "Be your own light."

Does "evil" truly exist or is it just people acting outside of currently accepted more`s and norms?

Rhetorical question. :?:

I would say that's a dialectic question. Pretty straight forward. I would say rhetorical wording would be something like "Acting outside of more's and norms makes something evil?" At least I think so.

One thing for certain though, my response qualifies as 'pedantic.' That much appears beyond question.

Nothing worse than a didactic pedant.... especially when they're probably right. :)
