Country based lds.org sites gone

All that is left are the various newsrooms highlighting local as well as HQ news. All the other lds.org varieties like lds.org.au or ldschurch.org.nz are gone.

Does anyone know why?

The more "official sources" you have the harder it becomes to correlate.

Any individuality is dangerous.

Most would be just slight variations. Others like the UK was very different in styling and content. They would have a lot of info on the local history and local news as well as resources.

Just received this email from the Church:
Dear Brothers and Sisters:

The name of the Church was given by the Lord Himself when He instructed: "For thus shall my church be called in the last days, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (Doctrine and Covenants 115:4). To be true to that charge, we are changing the names of many of the Church's global communication channels as follows:
LDS.org will become ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
The missionary-focused website Mormon.org will be changed to ComeUntoChrist.org.
Church social media accounts will emphasize the name of the Savior's Church.
Over time, many Church communication channels in English will become part of ChurchofJesusChrist.org. In coming months, Church websites and social media accounts in other languages will be adjusted following a similar pattern. More detail can be found below or at Newsroom.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

This is a complex effort in numerous global languages and much work remains. We encourage all to be patient and courteous as we work together to use and share the proper name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the world.

Jesus Christ is at the center of His Church and we will be blessed as we strive to make Him the center of our lives.

Sincerely yours,

The First Presidency
Of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The amount of resources being allocated to this is obscene.

They called an endowment session a royale with cheese.

Sort of like an early Mormon late night polygamy session with Sylvia Sessions and a bottle of Scotch being called bangers with mash?

This would be hilarious, if most of my relatives weren't contributing way too much of their own resources that LDS-Inc. is now just literally flushing.

Think about it: LDS-Inc. is literally doing everything possible to make their electronic representation on the inter-webs completely generic. churchofjesuschrist dot org? That could represent any one of 10,000 - 40,000 christian denominations. (Depending on how Google feels when you ask how many "christian" denominations there are.)

Selfishly, I hope this ends up like this: An "investigator" wants to find out about mormonism. They ask google about mormon and see a reference to churchofjesuschrist and skip right on by, thinking: "Well, that can't be the mormon website." Then they move on to reading mormonthink.com

I'm very interested in the complete list of domain names that the LDS church now owns. I can only imagine the one-offs that those "Victory for Satan" apostates are going to inevitably register.

My favorite is churchojesuschrist.org. It rotates between things like CES Letter, Mormon Stories, exmo Reddit, and so on.

Normally large changes like this are prepares and readied for launch almost immediately. However, the changes are and seem to take a long time before they are fully rolled out.

This type of decision would require a unanimous decision by the FP and Q12. Do you think RMN sprung it on everyone at GC everyone had to run to rub with it?

Do you (not you specifically, people in general) think that there are instances where there's one member of the Q12 that is a hold-out that prevents something the prophet wants done? I half imagined unanimous among the Q12 to operate similar to the wider concept of "common consent."

I think it happens all the time. The Church paints a picture of collegial unity in Church councils, but rumours have it they have descended into slanging matches over the years. TBM mock the machinations of the college of cardinals when choosing a new pope, with power brokers collating votes to get a quick consensus between the powerful European cardinals and their South American counterparts. However, I imagine on contentious decisions, senior more experienced apostles might coerce younger counterparts to support them during debates.
