Now that I think about it, they start training priesthood holders early to be obnoxious pushy busybodies blind to the manipulative nature of things like showing up on someone's door step with a blue envelope asking for money. No wonder so many of them grow up the way they do.

My most salient memory of a church member obsessed with survival, in this life and the next, was an older neighbor who stored a gun with his two-year's food supply. One time he told me (exact words IIRC): "Young man, I'm going to the Celestial Kingdom, and I don't care who I have to step on to get there."

Now that's a can-do attitude. ;)
