Let the buyer beware...

"Caveat Emptor" is a Latin expression that means the buyer assumes responsibility for deciding if the the product is what it is represented to be. Should we apply this to religion as well? Should we tell disaffected Mormons: "It is/was your responsibility to determine if the Church is true? Or does the Church bear some responsibility for not giving a realistic, balanced version of Church History and the restoration of the gospel?

"Caveat emptor" is a good policy no matter what the individual is investing their time or money in.

But as an entity that is not selling a product of any sort but is supposedly a singular instrument of God created to aid in the return of His children.....I believe the church has a transcendent obligation to be uncompromisingly honest and forthright in all of it's dealings. Otherwise, how can it be of God?
