Vesuvius

Was just reading this article on all the intricate details and artifacts showing life to the smallest detail in the Ancient Roman Empire uncovered from the ash of Vesuvius. This was around the same time as according to the Book of Mormon great cities were destroyed by a myriad of natural disasters——yet have they uncovered the remains of even one fraction of a Nephite or Lamanite city???

The Joya de Ceren site in Salvador has been used by some people as evidence of the great destruction that heralded the arrival of Jesus in America. It is not, but it is the closest thing on this side of the Atlantic to the cities buried by Vesuvius. The town was completely encapsulated in lava, preserving it to the same degree as Italian cities like Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Far from evidence that massive disasters swept across Book of Mormon lands, the Ceren eruption was very localized and slow enough that all of the residents were able to get out with safely- except for a duck that was still tied up in a shed. The town was preserved in extreme detail, and teaches us a lot about Classic Mayan daily life, but nothing that indicates Nephites or Lamanites or anything else in the Book of Mormon.

There has not been ONE artifact discovered, ever, that supports a belief in Nephites, Lamanites, or Jaredites ever existed, although some have been seriously distorted by commercial Book of Mormon tour guides and desperate apologists. If there was such an artifact it would be big news and there would be a church visitor center on the spot.

If Mormons had spent as much effort uncovering the remains of the Shire, they probably would have found proof of 2nd breakfasts and tea cozies.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.
