This is not a gathering, nor an event, but it is an announcement. I honestly had no idea where to put this.

Sad news, folks.

He said that if he and his wife, Patricia, had been alive at the time of Joseph Smith’s First Vision in 1820, they would have been looking for the doctrine of temples and eternal marriage that Latter-day Saints believe was part of the resulting restoration of Jesus Christ’s church.

“I would have looked anywhere and everywhere to find someone authorized to say to me and my beloved Patricia that our marriage in such a setting was sealed for time and all eternity, never to hear or have imposed on us the haunting curse ‘until death do you part.’”
That would have been a perfect opportunity to ask him how he would have felt when JS then sent him off on a mission and married his wife...ya know, as a test of his faith.

Morbid thought: How many of the Q15 who are "under" him in the hierarchy end up licking their chops when something like this happens, pining for the chance to move one seat closer to the coveted CEO position?

I already answered this on another thread.

Soooo, like being a black Mormon in 1977?

People can look to other humans that they believe have authority to make such a statement... or just decide for themselves that they have such a marriage. The underlying principle/power is the same.

I think the reality would have been that he would have had no idea that he was forbidden to be with his wife forever without the LDS Church's blessing. And a temple to him might have meant a Jewish or Buddhist building, and nothing more.

Edit: In fact, in 1820, they would not have known Joseph was going to start a Church, let alone all the keys and authority it claims to have. If they'd heard of Joseph and his vision then (if it did, in fact, happen in 1820), they probably would have thought he was some loser kid off his rocker or devil-deceived, and would have believed their own current religion more fervently.

I'm not sure where my brain is, but I read this:

Sad news, folks.
and when I went to the link, the first thing I read was this:
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland ̶h̶o̶s̶p̶i̶t̶a̶l̶i̶z̶e̶d̶, does not have COVID-19
Edit: What I meant was I -emphasis on I- read, not that's what they had written. (The clue is in this: "I'm not sure where my brain is, but I read this")

Sad news: Holland doesn't have covid. <-- That's what I "saw". I only shared it because I thought it was funny. I'm sorry I said anything.

Seriously? They crossed out "hospitalized"?

No, I did. To show that what I saw was "Jeffrey R Holland does not have covid-19," right after I read your post that said "sad news." I saw the word hospitalized but didn't focus on it and that's why I kept it in the sentence. I crossed it out because I wasn't focused on that word.

The best thing about this article was that on my phone it had an advertisement for a casino, with a photo of a glass being filled with wine. At first glance it looked like Holland's hospitalization was alcohol related.
