Statue in Rotterdam

Post by Meilingkie » Sat Mar 04, 2017 5:15 am

What would YOU call this statue?
It´s standing 50 yard from my office on an old square in Rotterdam.

The official title is Father Christmas, but in Rotterdam everyone calls it something quite different.

Is there some way to politely describe the large "object" held in Father Christmas' right hand? Does this reflect some sensibilities that made more sense when the statue was created? I cannot conceive how this statue could be built as a new monument anywhere in the United States today without loud, satirical derision at best.

It looks as though Father Christmas is pleased with the object he is holding.
Reading can severely damage your ignorance.

Doesn't this photo belong in that "other" thread about vibrating oblong instruments, used for "stuff"?

The name 'Kabouter Buttplug' shows the whimsical side of those Netherlanders equally well as any pair of wooden shoes. Sort of reminds me of that Aretha Franklin song, Spanish Haarlem:

There is a tulip in Spanish Haarlem
A red tulip up in Spanish Haarlem
It is a special one, it's never seen the sun
It only comes out when the moon is on the run
Oh, oh, oh, Chiquitita.
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

Moksha strikes gold again
It's called Kabouter Buttplug
Or in plain English Gardengnome Buttplug

It's supposed to be a handheld Christmastree

I'm glad that Moksha struck gold because I'm not sure that I wanted to win this competition of accidentally(?) homoerotic imagery.

Is a buttplug useful to have? Just wondering. I wonder if they sell any similar gnomes at the Home Depot??
