Here is a beautiful sounding Church hymn. The MoTab Choir even recorded it in 2003, but it was a pale and less delightsome version of this arrangement by Cat Stevens.

Not sure, but most likely they would think of The Elder Scrolls as a new iPad app replacing the bulkier Quad.

My ex boyfriend who kind of helped me open my eyes about the church - was mad because I essentially chose the church over him. He always quoted this song... Pink Floyd "Wish you were here" - accusing me of choosing the easy way. Years later, I threw it back in his face because he has his own little narrow-minded herd-mentality group with whom he ganged up on me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPL_SV3n7IU

When I heard this song, it was among many on another person's I-pod I borrowed, which was the only lds song so I didn't think it was lds. It reminds me of what I feel morally committed to - truth - "remember the promise" - to put God/Truth above all - including above the church. And I have often felt like I was in a battle between principles.

A couple more songs I recently came across.

K.I.D. - Errors
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOeDzKiBbws
[Verse 1]
I'm sorry I couldn't meet all of their expectations
Lately, I've got no energy
Now they're recommending counselors and medications
From the corner pharmacy

[Pre-Chorus]
Everybody's asking me what's wrong
In the living room from dawn to dawn
Have a cigarette 'cause nothing's on

[Chorus]
No, I'm not doing my best, kind of fragile and depressed
I cannot even bring myself to get dressed
And I wish I could correct complications in my head
I've tried every little dose they recommend
There's an error in me, da da da da
There's an error in me, da da da da

[Verse 2]
I wanted to be good, but I was met with complications
Yeah, I got lost along the way
My mother, she called me to express all her frustrations
I watch pornography all day

[Pre-Chorus]
Everybody's asking me what's wrong
Lying in a blue haze on the lawn
Took a little more than I should in the garage

[Chorus]
No, I'm not doing my best, kind of fragile and depressed
I cannot even bring myself to get dressed
And I wish I could correct complications in my head
I've tried every little dose they recommend
There's an error in me, da da da da
There's an error in me, da da da da

[Bridge]
There's never enough medicine
Some bastards said I'd never win
I'll lay alone busy doing nothing
There's never enough medicine
I struggle to wake up again
I'll stay alone busy doing nothing

[Chorus]
No, I'm not doing my best, kind of fragile and depressed
I cannot even bring myself to get dressed
And I wish I could correct complications in my head
I've tried every little dose they recommend
There's an error in me, da da da da
There's an error in me, da da da da
Da da da da, da da da da
Flaw - Fatal Fall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFArsv_5ZSY
There's far too many people waiting for the end to come
This just is not the case
Divided by the symbol we succeed to end as one
It's such a bitter taste

I'm trying to save you from a fatal fall
Cause I don't think that you can take it
You gotta stop before you lose it all
And find the strength so you can make it

I know it feels as though inside you are the only one who's ever felt disgraced
Deep down the hurt inside is crying out its just begun at such a rapid pace
You've started acting like the world has slowly come undone
It's such a lonely place
I know it feels as though inside you are the only one
That just is not the case

I'm trying to save you from a fatal fall
Cause I don't think you can take it
You gotta stop before you lose it all
And find the strength so you can make it
[x2]

How can I just sit by with all the things I've seen?
I'm going to save your life with every ounce of me
This is our final try to raise your self-esteem
A new start, a new day so wash it clean

I'm trying to save you from a fatal fall
Cause I don't think you can take it
You gotta stop before you lose it all
And find the strength so you can make it

Surely your not happy now you no longer play the game,

People say I'm lazy dreaming my life away,

Don't you miss the big time boy you're no longer on the ball?

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round,
I really love to watch them roll,
No longer riding on the merry-go-round,
I just had to let it go,

People asking questions lost in confusion,
Well I tell them there's no problem,
Only solutions,
Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind,
I tell them there's no hurry...

I'm just sitting here doing time,

I just had to let it go.
I'm late to this party, but man, this was great.

I did some video editing for some old home movies (VHS to DVD/MP4) and for some of the silent movies (these were 8mm film that were converted to VHS) I found some music to play over the top. One of the songs I came across was the main song from Interstellar.

After listening to a version I found, I decided to use it as my alarm music. I love the movie [SPOILER AHEAD] and it reminds me when Cooper leaves his family, particularly his daughter, to go on the space mission and he doesn’t make it back until she is on her death bed. It makes me think of how short life is and that we need to live it, and be in the moment. Seems like a good way to start the day to me.

Anyway, here it is.

One of the mental gymnastic explanations for the fossil record of the earth and how it does not fit into the 7,000 year old Adam and Eve narrative. Also addresses homophobia, living in fear with only faith and not critical thinking and of course the few special chosen ones.

Come to me, I'll fill the hole
Why would I be lying
End fan, all planned out

Offering a wonderful
Peace of mind worth buying
Bow down last round up

I am wise and you don't know
A cloud is my home
Only some get in
Got a 'maginary friend

The devil put dinosaurs here
Jesus don't like a queer
The devil put dinosaurs here
No problem with faith just fear

Promise those who've gone before
Waitin' on you flyin'
Leading, receiving us

I'm as flawed as any man
Look at me I'm smiling
Drink me, eat me up

I am wise and you don't know
A cloud is my home
Only some get in
Got a 'maginary friend

The devil put dinosaurs here...

How can you take a seasonal favorite and make its arrangement the sine qua non rendition and do it all a cappella?

Oh boy! This is fun! I love a wide range of genres of music except contemporary country, although Hank Williams Sr. and Hank Snow still resinate (sorry country fans!). I'm a dyed in the wool 70's rockaholic so naturally, I'll float something to the surface that reflects that hormonally turbulent time where my biggest escape was music.

I have to say Richie Blackmore's Rainbow Rising album has a couple of story songs that are, in my mind, perfect analogues for the all-in Mormon (me then) going all-out (me now). The first, (Stargazer) is a song about a faithful follower (written in the first person) of a charismatic wizard who, by deceitful deceptional deceit, has his followers, under gruelling conditions, build a tower of stone. From this rameumtum, he will launch himself skyward to Heaven with the faithful following closely behind. Spoiler alert: Epic fail. He falls off the tower and gets dead by face-planting in the sand leaving his minions quite bewildered, stunned, sheeshed, etc. And this is where the song ends. The second song, (A Light in the Black), is part B of Stargazer. It's the same minionite narrating and trying to sort out what to do in the aftermathing chaos of leaderlessness and finding hope in his freedom to chose his own path. Disclaimer: this album gave rise to metal (with others) so it's hard enough rock to be declared solid. You can find the lyrics here http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/rainbow/stargazer.html and here http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/rainbow/ ... black.html. Disclaimer 2: You might conclude that this is very negative - I just think there is a cool couple of threads running through the songs that parallel the church journey. There's a play button atop the lyrics. Caution. Satan alert: do not play these songs backwards!
Cum omnia defecerunt, ludere mortuis. (When all else fails, play dead.)

This speaks so much to Nomish-ness that someone made a great youtube video of the journey. The old website even gets a shoutout:

and to continue my Mumford & Sons kick, the next one speaks so much to the journey of my marriage. I pulled the rug out on my DW when I starting doubting the church but I was able to show her I'm still a "lover of the light"

Missionary Man
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-Q3cp3cp88

Well I was born an original sinner.
I was borne from original sin.
And if I had a dollar bill
For all the things I've done
There'd be a mountain of money
Piled up to my chin

My mother told me good
My mother told me strong.
She said "Be true to yourself
And you can't go wrong."
"But there's just one thing
That you must understand."
"You can fool with your brother
But don't mess with a missionary man."

Don't mess with a missionary man.
Don't mess with a missionary man.

Well the missionary man
He's got god on his side.
He's got the saints and apostles
Backin' up from behind.
Black eyed looks from those bible books.
He's a man with a mission
Got a serious mind.
There was a woman in the jungle
And a monkey on a tree.
The missionary man he was followin' me.
He said "Stop what you're doing."
"Get down upon your knees."
"I've a message for you that you better believe."
“Sir,' I said to the universe, 'I exist.' 'That,' said the universe, 'creates no sense of obligation in me whatsoever.”

I saw this band on Colbert the other night and have been doing a deep dive. I've been increasingly appreciative of the electronic elements creeping into all levels of popular music in the last couple decades, but this band is just straight-up rock and roll and I love it.

This song lost to David Bowie at the Grammys, which is fine company as far as I'm concerned. I'm finding the message meaningful in my truth journey. Enjoy!

Highly Suspect -- "My Name is Human"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljvZ928YGrQ

[Intro (spoken)]
Okay

[Verse 1]
I'm feeling the way that I'm feeling myself
F**k everyone else
Gotta remember that nobody is better than anyone else, here
(Do you need some time to think it over?)
Look what they do to you
Look what they do to me
Must be joking if you think that either one is free, here

[Chorus 1]
Get up off your knees, girl
Stand face to face with your God
And find out what you are
(Hello, my name is human)
Hello, my name is human
And I came down from the stars
(Hello, my name is human)

[Verse 2]
I'm ready for love, and I'm ready for war
But I'm ready for more
I know that nobody's ever been this f**king ready before, hey
(Do you need some time to think it over?)
So figure it out, or don't figure it out
I figured it out
The bigger the river (the bigger the river)
The bigger the drought (the bigger the drought)

[Chorus 1]
Get up off your knees, boy
Stand face to face with your God
And find out what you are
(Hello, my name is human)
Hello, my name is human
And I came down from the stars
(Hello, my name is human)

[Bridge]
Fire world, I love you
Fireworld

[Chorus 2]
I'm up off my knees, girl
I'm face to face with myself
And I know who I am
(Hello, my name is human)
I stole my power from the sun
I'm more than just a man
(No longer disillusioned)

[Outro]
(I'm not asking questions)
('Cause questions have answers)
(And I don't want answers)
I came down from the stars (so I'll take my chances)
(And what are the chances)
(That I could advance)
(On my own circumstances)
(Said "what are the chances?")
Hello, my name is human (And what are the chances?)
(I don't want your answers)
(I'm not asking questions)
(So you keep your answers)
And I know who I am (So you keep your answers)
(I'm not asking questions)
(I'm taking my chances)
