Gee..... this looking for a place to live is harder than you'd think. There is always something that comes up and another city is crossed off the list. We thought how cool! We can live anywhere! hmm..... this is not the easiest decision. Your suggestions have help a lot.

Anyone know anything about Oklahoma? Pros, Cons. Specifically Tulsa, Oklahoma city suburbs? I know those cities are on the dirty air list but are the burbs OK? Housing super cheap, lots to do. I know, it's in tornado alley, but heck we've lived in IL and now surrounded by fires and California earthquakes... It's in the Bible belt.... do I need to be concerned about that?

Anyone know anything about Boise area. Pros, Cons. How are the winters. What about the predominant religion?

If you do out East, avoid the area around Buena Vista Virginia. That is the home of Southern Virginia University which like to thinks of itself as BYU-East. My understanding is the Mormon in the town is pretty bad.

OOOH, I've been there! Yep! You're right, very Mormony. TBM GD will be attending there in the Fall. I was hoping she would go to school somewhere out of Utah so much I even told her that. I wanted her to see what it was like to live where there were no Mormons. She expressed a great fear of "those in the world" and didn't believe me when I told her all about the wonderful people I have met who were not Mormon. So we had a nice chat about the Mormon view of the world. Any way when she told me she was going to school in Virginia I was pretty excited and then found out which school. Sigh. I visited there several years ago when I was TBM. I thought the area was beautiful and but there was zero there to do. It has been quite a while since I was there so maybe there is more to do now. We did tour the school and found everyone nice and welcoming.,. but they knew I was Mormon. Thanks for the warning. I hope she does OK there.

lol!! I didn't think finding a place to live with clean air would be a problem but we are finding that it is. I've found all sorts of lists of this and that on the internet. Depending on the year and who is doing the study the cities or states listed change but for the most part here is a good list that I found eye opening. The list is a few years old still there is a lot of useful information here. Where your state or city is on the list just might surprise you!

Based on that list of states, I'd personally choose Washington or Oregon. Never lived there, just visited, and enjoyed it immensely.

Opinion is worth what was charged for it...

Tucson

Medium sized city, air quality is good, good medical facilities, pretty diverse, can get a decent house in a good area for under $250k if you don't expect to have a big yard.

Not quite as hot as Phoenix and we get awesome monsoons during the summer and occasionally snow in the winter. The mountains above town have a ski "resort".

I had no idea that Tuscon was that big of a city! You are right, lots to do, cheaper housing, beautiful area, but whats going on with the crime rate? Is this just in a few areas of all over the city in general. I am getting my info from this website:

The crime rate is mostly from certain areas. We live near Oro Valley and in 19 years the only crime I've personally experienced at my home was someone rifling through my truck when it was left unlocked one night.

Well I think she's made her decision. She's zeroed in on one city in particular and is making her plans. This may take her a bit as she needs to get all her ducks in a row. Her decision surprised us. She was not looking there. Just shows you need to keep all options open. Thanks for all your suggestions. And the winner is .................. (I will return and report)
