Ballad of Green Acres by John Taylor
“Upper California, that's the land for me
It lays between the mountains & great Pacific sea,
The Saints can be supported there & enjoy sweet liberty
With flocks and herds abounding. Oh, that's the land for me

“We’ll go and lift our Standard, we’ll go there and be free
We’ll go to California and have our Jubilee
A land that blooms with endless spring
Keep Manhattan, just give me that salty brine.”
— John Taylor, 18 March 1845
This was once hymn #299 in the LDS Hymn Book
Good faith does not require evidence, but it also does not turn a blind eye to that evidence. Otherwise, it becomes misplaced faith.

I'm torn on whether or not John Taylor was prophetic based on this song. On one had, the tune from the 1960s televison show "Green Acres" fits pretty well with these lyrics. It's nice to see some prophetic foreknowledge from President Taylor.

However, if he would have simply included a line about gold at Sutter's Mill, he could have made a crazy amount of money getting a jump on the 1849 gold rush. He missed a good opportunity there.
