Holy $#!+ Yobispo. First of all, glad to see you on NOM 2.0. Congrats, does Yobispa approve.

It went to extra innings, so I busted out the woodchuck hard cider.

A giant peppermint bark mocha from the good coffee place. I stayed up way too late last night to order that NES classic for Christmas, then I couldn't sleep after the resulting high of finally getting it to work at the third store.

Thank FSM for coffee.

Stone Xocoveza. It's a quite delightful stout brewed with cocoa, coffee, peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Tastes like the holidays.

If you are inclined to dabble or dive into strong drinks, I'd recommend you buy local. There are so many great breweries and distilleries in Utah now there's no need to shop at the grocery store or those crappy state run liquor stores. I like my brews like my food, in divers ways and divers manners. So please don't waist your money on that watered down commercial Bud or Coors when there's so much Utah awesomeness to explore.

When starting out with beer I'd suggest sticking to the lighter side: amber ales and hefeweizen wheats. Squatters has an awesome hefe that goes great with their fish and chips. The best tacos in town are at taqueria27.com - try the T27 Mexican Lager!

Wasatch Brewery http://www.wasatchbeers.com/beers.aspx has awesome beers and the best marketing on their products.

Here's the back of the devastator label:

If you're going to sin, sin big. With 8% alc/vol and creamy richness, this brew has developed a serious cult following. Imagine that -- a cult following in Utah?!
Food parings: front of cow, back of cow, rattlesnake

For the harder stuff, try the original Pioneer recipe from High West Distillery, Valley Tan. Look for the picture of Porter Rockwell on the front.
http://www.highwest.com/products/valley-tan.php

On the harder sweeter side it's really hard to beat Ogden's Own Distillery. The Peach Whisky is awesomeness! Also enjoy their Five Wives Cinnamon Vodka and Porter's Fire Cinnamon Whisky, both favorites at the Highlander home.

A new distillery in SLC - Dented Brick makes a nice Gin and Antelope Island Rum. There are many more great local pubs, brewers and distillers - start tasting and start living!

If you want good food and a menu of beers from all over the valley and the world, go to The Bayou and be sure to download their mobile app for a guide to navigate all the choices, including a list of the great locals.

So, man and woman does not live by bread alone. You don't like eating the same pizza everyday for every meal, be sure to let your pallet explore the wonderful broad world of drinking!

Coke and Malibu with lime

I hadn't drunk in months, but it was worth it. Something about doing a procrastinated assignment that you really don't feel like doing while nursing a nice cocktail is totally satisfying. Too bad I didn't realize that the first time I was in college. ;) After I turned 21, of course.

(Does anyone else ever marvel at the fact that they made a lifelong commitment to spend their life with someone before they were old enough to legally consume alcohol?)

I think the taste is somewhat related to the asbestos filtration system used by Coors.

I've heard how bad the big name beers are so I stayed away and only started with craft beers. Craft beers are much more flavorful and stronger taste. I have a hard time with most. The coors light is much more mild and seems to be an easier transition.

I have wanted to have an evening of trying out a bunch of beers in shot glass quantities. I drink so infrequently that I still have very little perspective on the most common beers available. It might be helpful to try the most commonly advertised and sold beers in the sizes that hard liquors usually inhabit. It's easy to enjoy Mike's Hard Lemonade or Redd's Apple Ale since they are largely just soda pop with some ethanol. Learning to enjoy standard beers seems like one of the valid paths through apostasy.

In other unsurprising news, I continue to enjoy black, unsweetened coffee at my office. While I would enjoy more telecommuting from home, it would not allow me to have coffee.

Flights are your best bet, though they're usually 4 oz or so and not shot glass sized. There is also the issue that a place offering flights is unlikely to have much selection in the way of the more common macro beers out there since flights of beer is more associated with the craft scene. You're next best bet would be some sort of NOM bottle share, if you can find a place that will let you buy beers singly (though depending on locale that might require a bit of a trip) then everyone can pick a bottle up (or since you're unlikely to be gunning for rare or highly sought after beers just fronting for the mix-a-six yourself is unlikely to break the bank, just have everyone else contribute some salty snacks).

I'm kinda nostalgic for the good ol' days of my initial exploration into beer. Back when everything was new and unknown it was easy to try a new beer every time. To date I've tried over 300 beers and the first derivative of new beers vs. time is certainly flattening out, now that I know about my preferences and to watch out for things like old IPAs I buy more six-packs and less mix-a-sixes and single bottles. I suppose on the plus side I know what beers I like (and what it is I like about them), what styles I like, and pick up less beers that make me cringe. Still, there is something to be said for the exhilaration of rapid discovery.

O’Doul’s Amber is a fine Mormon beer without a transitional waiting period because it is non-alcoholic. It would only be prohibited among those who insist that financial transparency is the work of the devil.

At 10:30 pm thanksgiving night my BIL and I took an Uber to Fremont street in Vegas and spent 4 hours gambling and drinking. It was awesome. Best 4 hours of my thanksgiving weekend.

I wished I had been there. I gotta tell anyone out there that hasn't used uber, it is fantastic if you even think that drinking anything is a possibility.
I can't brag enough on the service I experienced.

Headed to the new circle K for the pumpkin or hazelnut early sunday morning brew.

Apothic Inferno, it's a red wine aged 60 days in whiskey barrels.
