Pornography and the eye of the beholder

Post by Hagoth »

Mrs. Hagoth was sharing travel notes with a TBM neighbor. The neighbor (mother of one of the newest GAs) talked about what a horrible experience they had visiting Athens. They were shocked and disgusted by the pornography EVERYWHERE The conversation went something like:

Mrs. H: "Wow, things must have changed. We didn't see anything pornographic."
Mrs. TBM: "Are you kidding, it was everywhere!"
Mrs. H: "Really?"
Mrs. TBM: "Penises. Penises everywhere you look!"
Mrs. H: "Wait, you're talking about the sculptures in the museums?"
Mrs. TBM: "We had out 18-year old son with us and we were trying to keep him worthy to go on a mission."

So penises are evil, but a woman's breast is perfectly fine? Man, there is some weird sexism with their definition of pornography.

Unless the kid was gay, why would penises be a problem.

Maybe HE wasn't the one having the lustful thoughts?

Yep. Classic case of a protective mother projecting her own desires on her son.
God is Love. God is Truth. The greatest problem with organized religion is that the organization becomes god, rather than a means of serving God.

Although there are certainly exceptions, Greek art usually has men naked and women clothed.

Ha. I saw Zardoz at the drive-in when I was a teenager.
